Thanks to Market Research Society (MRS) for hosting a webinar today to support the launch of Data Storytelling in Marketing. There was a great turn out and lots of questions. My favourite question was in response to the idea of needing to balance proactive 'meta stories' with reactive 'trigger-based stories'. It would be great if 20-25% of our data storytelling time was spent telling stories that the business needs to hear, rather than those that align to specific projects and activities. In reality, the long tail of requests eats into that time and we don't get the headspace to dedicate much time at all to these stories. But just having just 2 or 3 meta stories that synthesise multiple project insights and align to powerful messages about the customer/ consumer/ market can make a significant difference.
