✨🌟 Sustainability Bites: Circularity in Action article now out ✨🌟 We held our second round table at Hyatt Place London City East with some fantastic experts from the tourism, hospitality and sustainability sector talking about circularity, the challenges and why hotels need to embrace it. Hosted by Michael Mason-Shaw regional director of operations for Cycas Hospitality and Felicity Cousins editor Sustainable Hotel News. Key points we discussed: 👉 The importance of reducing waste and pollution and the need for better waste management infrastructure, such as recycling systems and take-back schemes 👉 An agreement there needed to be a shift in the focus from recycling to regeneration, highlighting the overconsumption of natural resources; 👉 The role of innovative suppliers in providing sustainable solutions; 👉 The importance of storytelling in sustainability; 👉 The challenges of balancing sustainability with consumer expectations; 👉 The need for government support and industry collaboration; 👉The importance of biodiversity plans in hospitality and regenerating natural capital; 👉 The financial sector's role in driving sustainability through reporting requirements and how compliance and best practice with ESG strategy will help. Great insight from experts at the table Bryan O. head of sustainability Studio Moren, Juliane Caillouette Noble managing director The Sustainable Restaurant Association, Debbie Hindle chair of International Centre for Responsible Tourism global, Joanne Taylor-Stagg General Manager The Athenaeum Hotel and Residences and Tommie Eaton from Clean the World and CEO and founder @BambuuBrush® | B Corp™ #circularity #foodwaste #hotels #waste #scope3 #ESG #recycling #circulareconomy #hospitality #responsibletravel Esther Bell

We were delighted to talk to Natalie Campbell CEO Belu, a social enterprise which invests 100 per cent of its profit in pursuit of its purpose: to change the way the world sees water. Natalie spoke about why hotels choose Belu, her work with WaterAid, what hotels want when it comes to guests' water, biodiversity credits, working with waterways and rivers instead of carbon offsetting, and calling out those operators and brands which are not walking the talk ... "The larger hotel groups want to know what we are doing around wellbeing and mental health... The smaller suppliers want to meet us and understand what we are doing for small hotel chains, what we are doing for Water Aid, how they can get involved, and to understand nature-based solutions." #water #waterpoverty #circularity #hotels #suppliers #scope3 #ESG

There is a lot to do when it comes to the hospitality industry and food waste – did you know the global hospitality sector accounts for 1 per cent of all food production emissions and generates 3 per cent of global food waste...? The World Sustainable Hospitality Alliance has joined forces with Iberostar Group Sustainable Markets Initiative and Systemiq Ltd. to create a white paper which aims to help hotels and hotel groups tackle these issues. This is a call to action for systemic change on how this issue is approached across the hospitality industry. #foodwaste #emissions #hotels #foodsourcing #foodpackaging #whitepaper #ESG Glenn Mandziuk MEDes. We’re at AltoVita's The Altos looking forward to seeing who wins the sustainability and DEI initiatives awards later and enjoying the discussions. In her opening speech Karolina Saviova, COO & Co-founder, AltoVita noted it had been a "complicated year" and that the reality is we have "stabilised volatility". Some of the trends for the year ahead included extended stays – longer lengths of stay globally because of fewer relocations and more project work rather than short term assignments. More purposeful travel and community-oriented accommodation and sustainability also ranked high on the agenda. #extendedstay #servicedapartments #sustainablestay #community
