The case is being investigated but the incident is likely to have negative impact on the tourism industry and possibly on the shares of Erawan Hotel Group (ERW) today. ·      Gulf Energy Development Plc (GULF) and Intouch Holdings Plc (INTUCH) announced plans for a strategic amalgamation to streamline their shareholding structures and foster new growth opportunities in energy, infrastructure, and digital sectors. This move includes the formation of a newly listed public limited company (NewCo), a conditional voluntary tender offer (VTO) for Advanced Info Service Plc (ADVANC), and a VTO for Thaicom Plc (THCOM). ·      Today at 09:00 AM, there will be a House of Representatives meeting to consider the draft bill on the additional budget for the fiscal year 2024, proposed by the Cabinet, with a total amount of 122 billion Baht to support the digital wallet project. ·      The cabinet has approved the retirement lottery policy. The preliminary details of the retirement lottery but implementation could be sometimes in 2025 because various details need to be sorted out including change of laws that needs to be passed via Cabinet, Lower House in the parliament and the Upper house of the parliament. ·      UBS Securities issued an analysis on the situation with EA, predicting that more than 30 billion Baht of EA's loans could be classified as non-performing loans (NPLs) by the banks that loaned them the money. This would require the banks to set aside extra reserves to cover potential losses, likely exceeding 10 billion Baht. ·      Today, July 17, marks the day for the Constitutional Court to schedule a hearing on the dissolution case against the Move Forward Party, following the examination of evidence by the court. Chinese travellers are leading the charge in a continued rebound of international travel, exemplified in the second quarter by more than 1.5 million Chinese travellers leaving on outbound trips. The top destinations for Chinese travellers still included traditional favourites like Singapore (15.6%), Thailand (13.8%), Malaysia (12%), Japan (11.7%), and South Korea (11.5%). Visit Laos Year 2024 – Midyear Progress Report Lao tourism figures for the first half of Visit Laos Year 2024 have been released, showing a significant rise in visitors. The country experienced a 26% increase compared to 2023, totaling just over 2.1 million tourists. The primary markets remain consistent with previous years: - Thailand: 680,153 pax (32.25% of all tourists to Laos) - Vietnam: 512,042 pax (24.28%) - China: 510,083 pax (24.18%) - South Korea: 134,246 pax (6.36%) These four countries collectively account for an overwhelming 87% of all tourists to Laos. Moving down the list beyond the main markets, visitor numbers drop sharply: - USA: 37,752 pax (1.79% of all tourists to Laos) - France: 28,814 pax (1.37%) - UK: 24,430 pax (1.11%) - Russia: 19,170 pax (0.93%) - Japan: 14,340 pax (0.68%) - Germany: 13,639 pax (0.65%) - Cambodia: 11,020 pax (0.52%) - Australia: 10,024 pax (0.48%) These eight nationalities collectively contribute just 7.53% of tourist numbers to Laos, highlighting a concentration of tourism from a few key countries and a lack of diversification in the nation’s tourism strategy. When compared to the same period in 2019, a benchmark year for post-Covid tourism comparisons, we observe some shifts. - Thailand: 942,470 pax – decreased 28% in 2024 - Vietnam: 468,632 pax – increased 9% in 2024 - China: 505,763 pax – increased 8% in 2024 - South Korea: 81,675 pax – increased 64% in 2024 - USA: 29,228 pax – increased 29% in 2024 - France: 22,181 pax – increased 30% in 2024 - UK: 15,706 pax – increased 56% in 2024 - Russia: 6,308 pax – increased 204% in 2024 - Japan: 18,630 pax – decreased 23% in 2024 - Germany: 12,774 pax – increased 7% in 2024 - Cambodia: 15,775 pax – increased 30% in 2024 - Australia: 12,104 pax – decreased 17% in 2024 In summary, the first half of 2024 has shown positive trends in Lao tourism, with a notable increase in visitor numbers compared to 2023. However, the data reveals a concentration of tourists from a few key markets, highlighting a need for a more diversified tourism strategy. While improvements in accessibility, such as direct flights and the Laos-China Railway, have increased numbers from countries like South Korea and Russia, challenges remain in attracting long-haul travelers. The decline in Thai tourists suggests competition from other destinations and the importance of enhancing the overall visitor experience. To maintain and build this growth, Laos must explore new markets, improve its tourism infrastructure, and reduce barriers for airlines and tourists to enter the country. Additionally, understanding the nuances of tourist spending and behavior will be crucial for maximizing the economic benefits of tourism. How does a nation whose tourism arrivals have rebounded so fast and at such scale since the pandemic deliver a higher yield from high-volume tourism? This is Thailand's conundrum, and it underpins the launch of a new range of visa measures, including the Destination Thailand Visa - sometimes referred to as the Digital Nomad Visa. Thailand's tourism promotion strategy over the past three years has been an unmatched success in ASEAN. There is a big "but" however... “So it leads Southeast Asia by a long way in terms of visitor arrivals. But the problem – and this is a big problem – is that although it’s got the numbers coming in, the average spend per visitor is relatively low.” Therefore "the incremental value of just having more and more people isn’t being felt." The number of Japanese traveling overseas during Golden Week in 2024 is expected to recover to around 90% of pre-pandemic levels. Major travel agency JTB estimates that 520,000 more Japanese will travel abroad during the extended holidays, lasting from April 25 to May 5, representing a year-on-year increase of 67.7%. The figures are based on transport and tourism data as well as survey results.

The Ministry of Tourism, Cambodia would like to inform that from January to early May 2024, Cambodia received a total of 2,640,999 international tourists, an increase of 22.1% compared to the same period in 2023. About 986,435 tourists arrived by air, 1,612,547 by land and 42,017 by water. It should be noted that in the first five months of 2024, Cambodia had a total of 10,688,073 domestic tourists, of which 1,906,800 were foreign tourists, an increase of 69.1% compared to the same period last year. 2023.
