With the increasing popularity and known shortfalls in regulating electronic cigarettes (ECs), a study was published: Analysis of illicit drugs in purchased and seized electronic cigarette liquids from the United Kingdom 2014-2021. This publication discusses the trends driven by legislation changes, the importance of education regarding the risks associated with #electronic cigarette use and the potential health risks, if multiple compounds under the UK Misuse of Drugs Act and Psychoactive Substances Act are present. 📄 Read the study: https://ow.ly/7iCk50PL68V

📊📈 With limited data for the interpretation of #bloodconcentrations of #etizolam in post-mortem cases in literature, this study was published: Femoral blood concentrations of the designer #benzodiazepine etizolam in post-mortem cases. Hikin LJ, Smith PR, Maskell PD, Kurimbokus H, Ashong E, Couchman L, Morley SR. This publication explores that with a liquid #chromatography with tandem #massspectrometry method, the data from this study will further help forensic practitioners interpret post-mortem etizolam concentrations. 📄 Read the study: https://ow.ly/ioVx50PRb1W #academicresearch #drugdiscovery #drugresearch #druglegislation #healthresearch

The latest official figures suggest that there is an average of 49 drug poisoning deaths per week across England and Wales, involving opiates - such as heroin, oxycodone, fentanyl and synthetic opioids. This includes cases like Alex Jacques, where he took a substance sold as Xanax, but was contaminated with a synthetic opioid - nitazenes. Over the last 18 months - labs in the UK, including Analytical Services International (ASI), are testing for this and capable of finding these drugs in blood samples.
