The latest official figures suggest that there is an average of 49 drug poisoning deaths per week across England and Wales, involving opiates - such as heroin, oxycodone, fentanyl and synthetic opioids. This includes cases like Alex Jacques, where he took a substance sold as Xanax, but was contaminated with a synthetic opioid - nitazenes. Over the last 18 months - labs in the UK, including Analytical Services International (ASI), are testing for this and capable of finding these drugs in blood samples. In the UK, fatalities related to drug misuse have surged by 60% over the past decade, making it one of the highest rates in Europe, according to the National Crime Agency (NCA). > The dangerous #SyntheticOpioids- #nitazenes are increasingly linked to overdose deaths in the UK and are frequently detected within a variety of illegally obtained drugs such as synthetic cannabinoid receptor agonists, Benzodiazepines, increasing the risk to drug users. > Nitazenes pose problems for researchers trying to gauge usage patterns by analysing levels of the drugs in wastewater – since their potency means concentrations are often very low. 🔬 LGC Standards supports nitazene testing with 50+ reference materials and research chemicals for common compounds, including isotonitazene, metonitazene, etonitazene and protonitazene: https://okt.to/GpRDO6 📰 Read more about the NCA's data: https://okt.to/X4sNBb #ForensicAnalysis #Toxicology

Today is the International Day Against Drugs of Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 🌍 Drug abuse affects millions of lives, often in silence. On this important day, we recognize the crucial role of accurate testing. The recently released United Nations World Drug Report 2024 highlights the growing challenges and the urgent need for robust testing and intervention strategies. Notably, the number of internationally controlled NPS (New Psychoactive Substances) has increased from 166 substances between 2005 and 2009 to 1,240 substances in 2023, illustrating the rapidly evolving landscape of these types of drugs. At Finden, we are committed to making drug testing simple, fast, and accurate, ensuring reliable results that support effective interventions while contributing to these global efforts of promoting a healthier, safer world. 🔗 Learn more about our enzymes: https://lnkd.in/dTaFmzM8 🔗 Read the United Nations World Drug Report 2024: https://lnkd.in/deWaCPwc #WorldDrugDay #Toxicology #DrugTesting #Finden #KuraBiotech
