On Monday, the pop star shocked fans when she released her album Problématique, which her label initially shelved after many of its tracks leaked online in August of 2022. The release comes just three months after Petras unleashed her major-label debut, Feed the Beast, a sonically adventurous effort on which she experimented with different types of dance-pop. On Problématique, though, Petras commits to cohesion. She wrote and recorded the French house-inspired dance record during the pandemic lockdown, when she longed to escape to a club in Paris. The result: pure disco heaven. Kim Petras' 'Problematique' album art. Throughout the euphoric set, the Grammy winner revisits her bratty, sugar baby persona, from poking fun at past brushes with controversy on the glittering title track, to sharing her affinity for shopping sprees and designer duds on "Treat Me Like a Ho" and "All She Wants," which sounds like "I Don't Want It at All" 2.0 with a feature from her longtime pal and collaborator Paris Hilton. Elsewhere, on "Born Again," she evokes pop queen Kylie Minogue as she recounts an intoxicating romance. Petras will kick off her Feed the Beast World Tour in Austin on Sept. 27, and she's expected to perform fan-favorite hits, in addition to tracks off Feed the Beast and Problématique. And during lockdown, all I wanted to do was to escape, so I made Problématique, which was this super Euro-pop, gay-pop explosion, which I adore and love and I've worked very hard on and I am very proud of," Petras, 31, told PEOPLE of the project last year. "I hated that it leaked because it was never how I wanted people to hear it. But I'm happy that it did because it plays at parties and clubs and people love it. I love it, and it should be out there." Close
