Kaya Scodelario and Husband Benjamin Walker Have Separated

Kaya Scodelario and Benjamin Walker have decided to go their separate ways.

The former Skins star, 31, and the Tony-nominated actor, 41, separated last year after nearly eight years of marriage, PEOPLE can confirm.  

When reached for comment, a rep told PEOPLE: "Some time ago, Kaya and Ben made the joint decision to end their marriage but continue to co-parent lovingly whilst remaining the best of friends. They ask that their privacy as well as that of their children remain respected as they continue to move forward as a family."

The British stars wed in December 2015 and welcomed two children during their marriage — a son, 7, and a second child, 2.

They largely kept their personal life out of the spotlight, but Scodelario last shared a photo of the two together on Instagram in September 2022. In the shot, the pair smiled and posed next to one another while attending a wedding in Tuscany. 

Scodelario and Walker first met in 2014 while filming The King’s Daughter. After a whirlwind romance that grew out of a friendship, the couple became engaged by the end of the year. 

After a year-long engagement, the star of the upcoming Netflix series The Gentlemen and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power actor were married in December 2015. At the time, Scodelario confirmed the wedding on Instagram with a photo of their cake topper, which included a man, woman and French bulldog resembling their pet. 

In a 2019 interview with Elle UK, the British actress opened up about her engagement. “I never had any family heirlooms … Nothing that was ever passed down to me and so, when I met my husband and we were falling in love, he actually bought me a Cartier Love bracelet, for our first Christmas together,” she shared. “He says that it was then that he realized that he actually wanted to buy me an engagement ring, so he sort of weirdly proposed with a Love bangle.”

A year into their marriage, the couple welcomed their first born child in December 2016. 

Their family grew in January 2022 when they welcomed their second born. The Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City actress revealed the news on Instagram with a photo of her holding the newborn with Walker standing nearby and smiling at the camera.

"You made it here little one," Scodelario captioned the shot. "Starting the new year with so much love in our hearts & in our home.”

Walker was previously married to to Meryl Streep's daughter Mamie Gummer from 2011 to 2013.
