The pop star, 39, gave her fans a glimpse behind the scenes of the video for "Woman's World" — which premiered on Thursday, July 11 — in a new reel posted on Instagram on Saturday, July 13. While wearing a Rosie the Riveter-inspired red scarf in her hair, an orange construction worker-inspired crop top and denim shorts with a tool belt, Perry explained the meaning of the project while surrounded by her dancers in similar outfits. She began by playfully saying female empowerment phrases to the camera in character, including "Girlboss s---," "You go girl!" and "You were born to shine!" before explaining the scene she was filming at the time. "It's very slapstick and very on the nose." She went on to explain the first set of the music video and that she and her dancers — while in character for the music video scene — were pretending, "We're not about the male gaze, but we really are about the male gaze." "And we're really overplaying it," she added, before explaining that the scene came before she got "smashed" by a piece of metal in the video, which would serve as a "reset" for her and her character's "idea of feminine divine." Perry added that the video then moved on to a "whole different world" and made several roaring faces before she went on to detail the intent behind the opening of the video. "We wanted to open this video making it look like a super high-gloss pop star video," she said, leaning into the camera. "And that's what it is," she concluded, as her dancers made noises of agreement and encouragement behind her. The song is the first single from her upcoming sixth studio album, 143. which will be released on Sept. 20. “I set out to create a bold, exuberant, celebratory dance-pop album with the symbolic 143 numerical expression of love as a throughline message,” Perry explained in a statement on July 10 announcing the album's release date.
