While speaking to PEOPLE at Thursday's We Were the Lucky Ones premiere at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles, — which saw her and husband Steven Piet, 39, walking their first red carpet together since tying the knot in August — King, 24, revealed what she loves most about being a newlywed. "It's hard to say because people like ... Nothing really changed because we've lived together before. But I always say, and this is very true, that there's just something ... Everything's just a little bit sweeter now," the Kissing Booth star says. Joey King attends L.A. premiere of 'We Were the Lucky Ones'. She went there and got all these fake flowers and ribbon and tied it up. It was so cute.” Never miss a story — sign up for PEOPLE's free daily newsletter to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from juicy celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. While her first nuptials at Same Day Marriage were followed by bowling, she explained that the couple's second wedding in Spain was an “incredibly different vibe.” “There's so many favorite moments,” King added of the Mallorca celebrations, which she sweetly described as “the best weekend of my whole life.” Joey King and Steven Piet at the L.A. premiere of 'We Were The Lucky Ones'. The series tells the story of a Jewish Kurc family who were separated at the start of World War II and is an adaptation of Georgia Hunter's New York Times bestselling novel of the same name, which was released in 2017. While speaking at Thursday's L.A. premiere, King told PEOPLE why this was such an important project for her to be a part of, saying, "I mean, it was so important for me because first of all, my own ancestry." "I am a Jewish woman and I also think it's so important as the years go by and as more and more Holocaust survivors are losing their lives and they're getting older, soon there will be none left. And it is our responsibility to keep this period of time in history alive through our industry, and I couldn't be prouder," she adds. King says there were "so many days" that were challenging on set, but insisted the cast were there to lift one another up. "Honestly, there's so many days where we all separately had our experiences where we would just feel so heavy in our hearts, but we were really there to lift each other up and bring levity when we needed it, which was really wonderful. This cast is fabulous," the star tells PEOPLE. We Were the Lucky Ones premieres Thursday, March 28, on Hulu. Close
