24 years after Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan's marriage ended, Quaid says he has no regrets about the direction their relationship took.

Quaid, 70, appeared on the Friday, Sept. 6 episode of Who's Talking to Chris Wallace? on Max, where he spoke with journalist Chris Wallace about his new Ronald Reagan biopic Reagan. At one point in the pair's conversation, Wallace, 76, asked the actor to what degree the former couple's combined fame — Quaid and Ryan, 62, were married from from 1991 until their 2000 split — put strain on their relationship.

"How about that? When I met Meg I was here as far as career thing and she was here and then it just went like that," Quaid said, indicating with his hands that Ryan's level of fame shot beyond his during their time together.

"I tried to be a big person and tell myself that didn't bother me, but people are human," he added. "She was ascending as I went into rehab and Meg is really such a great, sweet person and really talented and deserved all her success. But I don't regret anything about my marriage to Meg, and we got Jack Quaid out of it who is really going on to maybe eclipse both of us."

Quaid has said in the past that he did feel somewhat overshadowed by Ryan's rise to prominence during their marriage, which was his second. Prior to Ryan, he was married to P.J. Soles from 1978 to 1983, and he later was wed to Kimberly Buffington from 2004 to 2018. Quaid has been married to his current wife, Laura Savoie, since 2020.

When we met I was the big deal,” Quaid said of his marriage to Ryan back in 2018 during an appearance on Megyn Kelly TODAY. “We’d go out on the streets of New York and it would be like, ‘Meg! Meg!’ And I have to admit it, I actually did feel like I disappeared. I didn’t think I was that small, but I was. It was a growth opportunity — I learned from that.”

At the time, Quaid did still say his marriage to Ryan was "the most successful relationship of my life."
