People Editorial Guidelines Published on June 2, 2004 08:00AM EDT It’s officially over between crooner – and current Jennifer Lopez squeeze – Marc Anthony and former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres, after a judge in Santo Domingo approved their divorce on Tuesday. “It’s fitting to accept this divorce by mutual consent,” Judge Maritza Capellan said, reports the Associated Press. Anthony, 35, was present during the hearing last week on the divorce motion filed by both him and Torres, 29. (The Dominican Republic offers expedient divorces to foreigners so long as one of the spouses is present.) The next step of the divorce is for the couple’s documents to be approved by the secretary of state for external relations and then the U.S. Embassy, at which point it will become final. Anthony and Torres – who have two young children, Cristian and Ryan – originally married in Las Vegas in 2000. They split up in July 2002, but never legally separated. They renewed their wedding vows at a lavish ceremony at a cathedral in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in December 2002. According to the judge’s decision, Anthony is responsible for $3,500 a month in alimony and $13,000 a month in child support ($6,500 a month for each). The decision also calls for Torres to receive Anthony’s BMW and Lincoln Navigator and to keep the family homes in Miami and San Juan, Puerto Rico, while Anthony will keep another home just outside San Juan, plus others in Long Island, New York and New York’s Catskill Mountains. Torres said last week that the two of them planned to keep their divorce amicable for the sake of the children. Close
