Over ons
At kaiko.ai, we’re developing a multimodal clinical assistant for cancer care. Built on foundation models trained in close collaboration with academic R&D partners, the assistant’s interface helps cancer care teams quickly synthesize complex medical data, offering timely insights to support critical decisions for each patient. Currently in testing, we are working with teams across various cancer care specialties to develop and deploy the latest AI capabilities for clinical use: * Distilling critical information from text, images and molecular data * Linking modalities through multimodal foundation models for oncology * Facilitating diagnosis and treatment planning We're refining our approach through close partnerships with leading institutions like the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI-AVL), merging clinical expertise with technological innovation. Born in Amsterdam in 2021, Kaiko has grown into a dynamic and multidisciplinary team spanning Amsterdam and Zurich.

Inspired to hear the story of our colleague, Veerle Struben, presenting in front of AI network of STZ. Thank you for sharing the story of kaiko.ai as well!
Getting better together.

Reflecting on BioTechX 2024 in Basel! 🎉 The convergence of AI and healthcare is gaining momentum, and we’re excited to contribute to this dialogue. Key highlights: - The “Big Data in Oncology” track showcased diverse perspectives on data extraction, structuring, and clinical applications. Our CEO, Thomas Hufener, presented on “AI-Powered Multimodal Clinical Intelligence: The Next Frontier in Precision Oncology,” emphasizing the need for clinical collaboration. - Despite the AI buzz, many companies still focus on traditional machine learning, with foundation models in healthcare just starting to gain traction. AI's ability to integrate genomic data with clinical data (imaging, pathology, and patient records) is crucial for enhancing cancer care decisions. - Clinical collaboration remains vital, yet many AI initiatives prioritize upstream applications (e.g., drug discovery) due to hospital complexities. - Emerging trends include: - Real-time treatment monitoring using multimodal data - Enhanced diagnostics through AI-augmented imaging and genomics - A shift towards preventive care and risk prediction - Growing recognition of the gap between AI's potential and its current implementation in clinical settings. We’d like to especially acknowledge the professionals we were fortunate to connect with and learn from, including Philipp Pauli, Christophe Dufour, Georgia Chan, Jean-Pierre Hubaux, Jacob Reimers, Jon Teague, Shayoni Dutta, Mieke Van Hemelrijck, Mike Rossi, Karl Smith Byrne, and Carian Boorsma, PhD. A big thank you to everyone we connected with at BioTechX—your insights have inspired and energized us for the possibilities ahead! #BioTechX #AIinHealthcare #AIOncology

Dutch Health Minister Fleur Agema believes AI could halve healthcare's administrative burden by 2030. At kaiko.ai, we share her optimism—and see even greater potential. We're starting with the foundations. In collaboration with The Netherlands Cancer Institute and other partners, we’re using AI to streamline patient consultation preparation. Our platform extracts key information from medical records and referral letters, with the goals of saving doctors time and improving overall care quality. But that’s just the beginning. We’re pushing towards true multimodality in oncology. Imagine AI that can analyze not only text but also images and genetic data. We want to give cancer specialists the power to view, combine, and analyze all types of oncology data through AI. This isn’t just about efficiency; it’s about uncovering new insights. It’s about more accurate diagnoses and personalized treatments. It’s about empowering doctors to continuously learn and accelerate research. In short, it’s about better outcomes for cancer patients worldwide. What do you think? Can multimodal AI transform healthcare? We’d love to hear your thoughts.
