Greening Baidoa: Planting trees for a Sustainable Future! The Promoting of Climate Resilient Food Security project (CFSP) extension to  Baidoa has started to the launching of an inspiring initiative to transform the town by planting 100 hybrid pawpaw trees across the community! This isn’t just about making Baidoa greener—it’s a powerful step towards tackling food insecurity, improving nutrition, and empowering livelihoods. 🍐 Fresh Produce for Better Health: The pawpaw trees will provide a steady supply of nutritious fruit, contributing to healthier diets for families in the community. 🧕 Income Opportunities for Growth: Surplus harvests will create income streams for residents, helping families support their needs and invest in better futures. 🌍 Building a Sustainable Future: By greening Baidoa, we’re raising awareness about environmental conservation while beautifying the town. CFSP is implemented by GIZ Somalia through Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and is funded by Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)

📣 Landmark moment: #Somalia has officially ratified the United Nations Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) and its protocols on Trafficking in Persons, Smuggling of Migrants, and Firearms. As the main international instrument in the fight against organised crime across borders, this entails a commitment to build comprehensive anti-trafficking strategies and foster strong partnerships between agencies and organisations across borders. The Better Migration Management (BMM) Programme, funded by the European Commission & Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), has supported #Somalia on this journey, including the creation of a roadmap with the Ministry of Justice for the accession. 🎉 Exciting News from Mogadishu: Soft Launch of Somalia’s New E-Government Applications! Last week, the GIZ Kenya team had the privilege of joining the European Union Delegation to Somalia, and ITU for the soft launch of two high-priority digital solutions in Mogadishu, Somalia, co-developed by the Ministry of Communications & Technology (MoCT), the Ministry of Education (MoE) and GovStack: 🌐Content Management System (CMS)   🎓 High School Certificates (HSC) These applications mark an important step in Somalia’s digital transformation journey, enabling local teams to build harmonised government websites and innovative service platforms, ultimately bringing services closer to citizens. Aligned with the National Transformation Plan 2030, Somalia is committed to making public services more accessible, enhancing data flows, and building a secure, digitally connected future. The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) provides the foundation for integrated, one-stop government services, with #interoperability as a core enabler of the country’s comprehensive #digitalization agenda. 🔑 Key Highlights from the Launch:  CMS & HSC Systems: These applications streamline operations, enabling efficient content management and providing students with flexible access to and verification of high school certificates—#anytime, #anywhere. Sustainable and Scalable Solutions: These systems are part of a broader vision to build sustainable, scalable solutions that empower citizens and contribute to the government’s digital transformation agenda. Local Ownership: Building ownership starts early, with local input guiding priorities and design through a human-centered approach to meet the evolving needs of governments and citizens and to foster #digital sovereignty. Capacity Building: Equipping local teams with skills and resources is essential for in achieving these ambitious strategies, providing a solid blueprint that government departments and agencies can leverage to digitize their services effectively. The soft launch is just the beginning! As Somalia continues to develop a resilient #digital public infrastructure, ongoing #capacitybuilding and #crossbordercollaboration—particularly around data sharing—will be crucial to ensure long-term #sustainability and #scalability of public services. 👥 Collaborative Advocacy for Safer Migration 👥 The recent Review of the Global Compact for Migration #GCM marked a milestone for the role of the East and Horn of Africa Anti-Trafficking (EHAAT) Network in shaping migration policies. EHAAT's 13 recommendations, presented to 54 African countries, are a call for proactive support to vulnerable migrant groups, including trafficking survivors. EHAAT’s creation and its participation in the GCM Review are supported by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH-coordinated Better Migration Management (BMM) Programme, funded by the European Union & Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). 🚀 Improving livelihoods through market access in Jubaland! 🏛️ In partnership with Alight and under GIZ Somalia’s Climate-resilient Food Security Project (CFSP), supported by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and funded by Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), we’re excited to announce the handover of a newly constructed market shed in Istanbul. This initiative directly supports local milk vendors and small traders by providing a secure, organized space to conduct their businesses, contributing to enhanced livelihoods and economic resilience. 💼🥛 The handover event was met with appreciation from the community and stakeholders, recognising how this infrastructure will improve access to local markets and create opportunities for income generation. We’re proud to play a role in fostering food security and economic growth in the region. 🌍 Celebrating World Food Day in Jubaland! 🌱 In partnership with the Jubaland Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (JMoAI), GIZ Somalia- Climate-resilient Food Security in Somalia (CSFP) Project funded by #BMZ commemorated the World Food Day in Kismayo. Together, we are working to strengthen food security and promote sustainable agriculture practices that uplift local communities. Through this partnership, we are not only addressing the challenges of food security in Jubaland but also empowering farmers with innovative solutions, such as climate-resilient agricultural techniques and improved water management systems.
