Take a look at this picture. It was taken today at our Salesforce offices in Tel-Aviv. It shows a few dozens of Salesforce Israel employees in one of our regular all-hands meetings. What's so special about that? Well, that picture was taken exactly 36 hours after Iran launched a massive aerial strike against Israel with 100s of UCAVs, ballistic and cruise missiles carrying about 60 tons(!) of explosives. Thanks to the Israeli Air force, the air forces of the US, UK, France, Jordan and others *and* Israeli innovation and engineering talent who developed the most advanced multi-layered air defense systems in the world - luckily that attack ended up with relatively low impact. It was a sleepless night for all us in Israel who got an advanced notice of the attack and basically spent that night bracing for impact. Now take another look at this picture. 36 hours later - People showing up at the office, talking to each other, having a few laughs, having meetings, discussing deadlines, solving business problems, discussing engineering problems, doing demos, having coffee and lunch together, having an all-hands meeting together. 36 hours ago we were bracing for impact of 60 tons of explosives that were about to fall out of the sky. TL;DR - You're likely overpaying for your cloud-database infrastructure, and it remains the weakest link in your SLA chain. When Tal Tamir and I embarked on our mission to optimize relational databases in the cloud with Rapydo, we initially didn't grasp the real root cause of high database costs. After engaging with hundreds of Amazon RDS users, we realized that high costs are merely a symptom of a few deeper issues. Cloud applications can scale infinitely, but your RDBMS cannot. This disparity creates a significant challenge: while your applications scale out seamlessly, your databases are limited to scaling up. This forces companies to prepare for worst-case scenario spikes around the clock. This challenge is particularly prevalent among the cloud-native businesses we spoke with, where over 90% rely heavily on RDBMS. Even with over-provisioning to handle potential application spikes, DevOps teams cannot be certain that the next spike will be absorbed by the available CPU and I/O resources. This uncertainty results in overpaying for database infrastructure while still facing the risk of performance bottlenecks.
