A very productive two days with the #EU #HorizonEurope ADOPTION Project. The meeting began with a recap of the mid-point project review which had been carried out by the Commission a few months back and which was very positive overall. After a presentation by each of the partners detailing their progress since the last plenary meeting, the team's focus moved on to the integration of each of the component parts into modules, and to planning the final demonstrations that will show the advances that have been made within the project. The workshop closed out with a tour of Pilot Photonics' new building on the DCU Alpha Innovation Campus. After a successful two days, with excellent progress made in pushing the state of the art towards solving scalability challenges in cloud and AI data centres, all project team members are now on their way home - safe travels everyone, and here's to the next workshop! 🚀 Exciting Day at Pilot Photonics! Today, we’re delighted to host our collaborators from the #EU #HorizonEurope ADOPTION Project for a plenary meeting at Pilot! 🎉 🌟 What is ADOPTION? ADOPTION aims to enhance datacenter efficiency particularly for high performance computing (#HPC) and artificial intelligence/machine learning (#AIML) workloads, which demand high-speed, low-latency data processing. Cutting-edge technology development is underway in: ✅ Silicon photonics optical engines ✅ Comb lasers and laser arrays ✅ Nanosecond optical switching using SOAs ✅ Advanced 2.5D and 3D photonic integration, packaging and assembly These technologies are brought together in themes around highly parallel co-packaged optics (CPO) interconnects and flatter network architectures based on optical switching. 🌍 A Complete Ecosystem for Innovation The consortium brings together an incredible group of partners spanning the entire value chain—from research and component manufacturing to system integration and end-user implementation. Stay tuned for impressive demonstrations in 2025! 🚀 #Innovation #OpticalNetworking #DataCenters #SiliconPhotonics #HorizonEurope Tyndall National Institute imec Huawei Resolute Photonics Senko Advanced Components Eindhoven University of Technology Fraunhofer IZM MicroAlign Argotech – Semiconductor photonics

Welcome to the era of Everything over Optical™
As I talk to customers and partners in the industry and dig into further use cases of Pilot's technology a phrase keeps popping into my head. Everything over Optical™ More and more applications and protocols that have traditionally used copper connectivity need to switch to fiber optics to meet the competing demands of longer reach, higher bandwidth, lower power. This is heavily driven by the demands of AI, datacentres, autonomous vehicles, and 5G/6G mobile. Ethernet/Infiniband for a long time, now PCIe over optical, UCIe over optical…even USB4 and DisplayPort are considering standardising optical implementations. Welcome to the Everything over Optical™ era #EverythingOverOptical #FiberOptics #Photonics #Connectivity #FutureOfNetworking #OpticalTechnology

We were delighted to participate in this Space Technology showcase last week. It featured an excellent schedule of presentations and panel discussions followed by a series of one to one meetings between the Irish space tech companies and the delegates from international space companies. Frank Smyth presented our integrated photonic solutions in particular our variable optical frequency generator which delivers #microwave, #mmWave, and #subTHz signals (4GHz - 250GHz) from a single optical chip. It will be a key component in next generation communincation, sensing and imaging systems. Great engagement with the Irish companies and international companies alike. Thanks to the Irish delegation to European Space Agency - ESA for organising. #space #photonics Airbus Defence and Space Viasat TTTech Thales Alenia Space ARGOTEC GMV Tisalabs MBRYONICS Celtonn ST Engineering iDirect Farran Technology MMIC-LAB Altera Analog Devices Réaltra Space Systems Engineering
The Irish Space Technology Showcase took place today at EastPoint, Dublin. Organised by Enterprise Ireland and IDA Ireland , with support from the European Space Agency - ESA and the Irish delegation to ESA, the event was opened by Emer Higgins, the Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment. It featured 22 innovative Irish companies and 15 European space-relevant entities, fostering commercial partnerships and collaborations within the space supply chain. The keynote address was delivered by Charlotte Mathieu, Head of the Industrial Policy and Space Economy Division at European Space Agency - ESA, with presentations from SME4SPACE and EUSPA - EU Agency for the Space Programme and panel discussions from leading Irish Space Tech Companies. This showcase provided a significant opportunity to explore the Irish space ecosystem and understand the national strategy for this dynamic sector.
