Climate financing is going to the wrong places! Really insightful snapshot into the relationship between emissions and Climate tech VC by Daria Saharova (partner at World Fund) She states that: “85% of emissions receive only 52% of funding” And interestingly: - personal behavior change will reduce only 4.3% of emissions - technologies already in the market will account for 49.8% - technologies under development and in need of investment will need to fill in the rest. “46% of emissions will be reduced by technology that’s yet to be developed, and this is the tech we desperately need. Thanks for this Daria Saharova, really insightful.

This is a good and important read on #FOAK projects and the ClimateTech Valley of Death, with good insight from some very sharp investors. One often overlooks aspect of this challenge is WHO will build these early commercial projects that are smaller and don't often appeal to top tier EPCs. This week was truly invigorating, filled with deep dives into ClimateTech at InnovationZero and inspiring discussions at 'On the Business' events supporting female founders in scaling their businesses. Here are the key insights that resonated with me: Climate Targets and Urgency: Despite our focus on climate targets, it's alarming to note that Europe has already warmed by 2 degrees, surpassing the threshold for extreme weather events. This calls for urgent action to address the impacts of climate change, from flooding to food shortages. The Role of Innovation: More innovation and adoption of impactful innovation is crucial to support sustainable initiatives, whether at the corporate or individual level. To drive adoption, innovative technologies must not only align with market needs and the needs of the planet, but also offer tangible benefits that make business sense - cheaper, better, faster… Empowering Start-ups: Corporates play a significant role in our journey towards NetZero, but they can't innovate fast enough to develop all the solutions. This is where start-ups become critical. A vibrant ecosystem that fosters collaboration across sectors, areas of expertise, corporates and policy makers is essential to achieving our NetZero goals. As we strive for a sustainable future, it's evident that behavioral change and technology adoption are key drivers of progress. Action and adoption can be incentivized through regulation and taxes, but broad scale adoption will come when these innovations make more sense to adopt than the status quo solutions we have today. we can accelerate the transition to a greener, more resilient world. Let's continue to harness the power of innovation, collaboration, and individual action to build a better tomorrow for ourselves and future generations. “Mom, you’re in the newspaper!”, said my daughter. Almost. It is not a newspaper, but a whitepaper by SEIF about the impact ecosystem. Mariana Christen Jakob, founder of SEIF - Driving Impact Innovation, asked me: ❔ If you look into the crystal ball, what development prospects do you see for tech for impact startups? In my opinion, impact will remain a massive driver. Investors will keep focusing on positive environmental impact as well as social impact. Examples are climate-tech, fem-tech or generally diversity and the female economy. However, raising funds will remain challenging for the coming months, especially for earlier-stage start-ups or start-ups with slower growth in revenues. ❔ What is your advice? My advice is twofold: Approach investors which still have sufficient cash and professionalize your fundraising approach. Regarding investors, this means talking to venture capital funds with sufficient dry powder, corporate venture funds matching your tech-focus or relevant government programs. Do not rely on private investors to keep funding your startups. The second part of my advice points toward increasing the maturity of the startup: Hire experienced employees with profound industry knowledge, strengthen the financial management, streamline the processes, and communicate to investors in a transparent and trustworthy manner.
