This week was truly invigorating, filled with deep dives into ClimateTech at InnovationZero and inspiring discussions at 'On the Business' events supporting female founders in scaling their businesses. Here are the key insights that resonated with me: Climate Targets and Urgency: Despite our focus on climate targets, it's alarming to note that Europe has already warmed by 2 degrees, surpassing the threshold for extreme weather events. This calls for urgent action to address the impacts of climate change, from flooding to food shortages. The Role of Innovation: More innovation and adoption of impactful innovation is crucial to support sustainable initiatives, whether at the corporate or individual level. To drive adoption, innovative technologies must not only align with market needs and the needs of the planet, but also offer tangible benefits that make business sense - cheaper, better, faster… Empowering Start-ups: Corporates play a significant role in our journey towards NetZero, but they can't innovate fast enough to develop all the solutions. This is where start-ups become critical. A vibrant ecosystem that fosters collaboration across sectors, areas of expertise, corporates and policy makers is essential to achieving our NetZero goals. As we strive for a sustainable future, it's evident that behavioral change and technology adoption are key drivers of progress. Action and adoption can be incentivized through regulation and taxes, but broad scale adoption will come when these innovations make more sense to adopt than the status quo solutions we have today. we can accelerate the transition to a greener, more resilient world. Let's continue to harness the power of innovation, collaboration, and individual action to build a better tomorrow for ourselves and future generations. Together, we can make a meaningful difference to accelerate the transition to a greener, more resilient world. 🌱💡

The momentum in climate and clean tech investment is growing, and it's exciting to witness. I'm seeing more cohorts focusing on addressing climate change, and what's even more encouraging is the increasing number of generalist VCs starting to invest in these areas alongside those with a specific clean tech focus. This widespread engagement and investment are crucial for driving the necessary advancements in the fight against climate change. As the conversation gains traction across various sectors, I believe we will continue to see a surge in innovation and collaboration. It's heartening to be part of a community actively working towards a more sustainable future. Let's keep supporting the individuals and organizations leading the charge. #climatechange #cleantech #sustainability #innovation

greenwashing noun /ˈɡrēn-ˌwȯ-shiŋ/ Definition: The act or practice of making a product, policy, or activity appear more environmentally friendly or less damaging than it really is. In our 2024 Climate Tech Opportunity Report, we identified the regions in the US going beyond greenwashing and driving real climate action. One standout is Greentown Labs, North America’s largest climate tech incubator, which supports startups developing technologies that reduce carbon emissions and tackle climate change head-on. Had to pleasure of chatting to Simon Crerar at SmartCompany about the origin story behind gentoo.earth and the recent launch of our AI-powered net zero intelligence platform. 🌍 At gentoo.earth, we’re on a mission to demystify corporate net zero—starting with one of the toughest markets: the voluntary carbon market (VCM). For too long, the VCM has faced major challenges: undersupply of permanent removals, lack of standardization & erosion of trust. These obstacles have hindered the market’s ability to make a meaningful contribution to the global net-zero transition. At gentoo.earth, we’re addressing these challenges head-on by empowering carbon removal suppliers with access to critical market intelligence. 📊 Our platform provides unprecedented data across 1,000+ public companies, offering insights into: corporate net zero targets, annual GHG reduction progress, carbon credit strategies & other key climate priorities. If you're interested in learning more, we'd love to hear from you! #NetZero #VoluntaryCarbonMarket #ClimateAction #AI #Gentoo

🌍 Just wrapped up an inspiring experience at the IMPACT FESTIVAL, where innovators and changemakers gathered to accelerate sustainable transformation! 🚀 A few of our key takeaways: 🔹 Corporate Sustainability Reporting: Many start-ups are zeroing in on sustainability reporting, which not only meets regulatory needs but also helps companies pinpoint areas for improvement, gaining a long-term competitive edge. At the Impact Festival Dinner hosted by Commerzbank AG, this was a major theme, with impressive real-world examples shared from their client network. 🔹 Decarbonizing the Building Sector: With its complexity and cost, the building sector poses a significant decarbonization challenge. Innovative start-ups are working to simplify solutions, supporting customers in managing, financing, and implementing these critical measures—a sector full of exciting potential! 🔹 Tech for Climate Action: Meeting founders driven to solve climate challenges was a highlight. From advancements in storage, biodiversity, and carbon storage in biomaterials to decarbonizing industrial processes and financing renewable projects, it was incredible to see so much cutting-edge tech in one place. 🔹 Catching Up with Klimate.co: A pleasure to reconnect with our portfolio company Klimate.co and Erik Wihlborg and his team, who are making strides in end-to-end carbon removal strategies for businesses. Inspired and energized by the progress and potential seen at #ImpactFestival. Here’s to driving impactful change! #Sustainability #ClimateTech #Innovation

🌱 Embracing Diversity in Climate Tech 🌍 🔍 It's refreshing to see conversations around climate tech diversifying, thanks to insights like those shared in the recent newsletter from Sifted. Kseniya Lenarciak, CFA, MBA's perspective resonated deeply with our ethos here at BioEsol. 🌟 The truth is, climate adaptation tech often finds itself in the shadows of more 'glamorous' investments. Yet, as Lenarciak rightly points out, these solutions are just as vital, if not more so, in the fight against climate change. We cannot afford to overlook the importance of adaptation in our pursuit of groundbreaking innovations. 🚀 At BioEsol, we firmly believe that there's no one-size-fits-all solution to climate change. Each challenge, whether it's wildfires or rising sea levels, demands a nuanced approach. This means embracing a diverse ecosystem of startups, each tackling different facets of the problem with their unique technologies and perspectives. 💡 It's disheartening to see some venture capitalists closing the door on potentially game-changing startups simply because they perceive them as too similar to existing investments. By doing so, they're not only limiting the impact of their portfolios but also hindering the potential for collaboration and synergy among startups. 🤝 Collaboration is key in the fight against climate change. Rather than viewing similar startups as competition, we should see them as potential allies, each bringing something valuable to the table. By fostering collaboration and diversity in our investments, we can unlock new avenues for innovation and accelerate progress towards a sustainable future. Let's keep the conversation going and continue to champion diversity in climate tech. Together, we can create a brighter, greener future for generations to come. #ClimateAction #Innovation #Collaboration
