Updates

  • Innovation in Action: Elevating Production Efficiency at GKD We are excited to share enhancements to our production capabilities through the strategic utilization of our Okuma MA500 horizontal mill. While initially acquired for a high mix/low volume family of parts, we are always adapting to changing market dynamics in order to continue delivering tangible value to our customers. Thanks to the expertise and fresh perspective our new programmer Liam Seward brings to the table, we are unlocking a new era of productivity with the Okuma MA500. Liam's innovative approach is revolutionizing our milling operations, particularly in optimizing for automation and high production. For instance, leveraging use of the pallet changer allows us to produce complete components in multiple operations with minimal spindle downtime - all accomplished with a single setup. Furthermore, through implementing features such as tool life management and automatic breakage detection, we can ensure uninterrupted operations and consistently high quality throughout every project, regardless of size, without compromising on precision or reliability. At GKD, we're dedicated to embracing new technologies and machining strategies to continue delivering exceptional results for our clients in the oil and gas industry and beyond. It's not just about pushing boundaries; it's about delivering real value to our customers. With our enhanced capabilities we can tackle projects with unparalleled agility, meeting deadlines without compromising on precision or quality. Stay tuned as we continue to harness the power of cutting-edge technology to drive progress and excellence in everything we do.

  • GKD is very proud to be celebrating its 30th Anniversary tomorrow! George and his daughters, Kathy and Darka, founded the family business in June of 1994 in a small shop on 30th Street SE Calgary, Alberta. Over the last 30 years we have seen GKD grow and prosper in the always exciting energy industry. This is in large part due to the extraordinary support of employees, customers and suppliers. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to making GKD one of the top machine shops in Alberta!

      +1
  • As GKD continues to grow, our latest multi-tasking cell is helping to maximize production and increase our efficiencies. Our 2 new Okuma LB4000 EX II MY’s are equipped with SMW Autoblock power chucks, live tool turrets with Y-Axis, and programmable LNS Autoblock Steady Rests & tailstocks.   These highly versatile mill/turn centers are bringing dramatic reductions in setup and run times by merging part processing operations, and allowing GKD to complete turning, milling, drilling, thread milling and broaching operations in a single setup.   Our super skilled journeyman machinist Keno Aquino is at the helm, and has been an integral part in helping with our continuous improvement initiatives.   With our next new machining cell in the planning phase, we are also looking to retire some of our older Haas and Okuma CNC turning and milling centers, know anyone who might be interested?
