I hear that recruiters in Australia and New Zealand are experiencing an overwhelming influx of job applications as the job market tightens, according to new data from recruitment platform JobAdder. The overall increase is driven by job boards, where candidates (and I know this for a fact) apply with just a few clicks. Most importantly, many of them apply for roles with NO relevant skills or experience, or apply for multiple, totally different roles. This makes us recruiters focus on headhunting and database search over advertising. For me personally, a targeted headhunt is always the one and only effective way to identify and hire a top talent. In fact, I've dropped using online job boards years ago as I find that they create nothing else but a lot of admin work and zero results (you end up reviewing tons of CVs, replying to applicants etc rather than focusing on targeted search and quality interactions with the right talent.) Here is a question for the job seekers out there that I'd be very curious to get some Intel on: Would you prefer to apply for a role yourself that you think might be a good match OR would you rather receive a call from a headhunter where they present a possible career move for you?  Or either is fine?
