Aboriginal Tours and Experiences in Western Australia

About us

WAITOC is the peak representative body for Aboriginal tours and experiences in Western Australia. Our Vision To see the creation of a vibrant authentic Aboriginal tourism industry as an integral component of Australia’s tourism industry. For Western Australia to become the premier destination in Australia for authentic Aboriginal experiences. Our aim is to create a vibrant Aboriginal component of Western Australia’s tourism industry, raising the profile of Aboriginal tourism on a State, National and International level. It is an exciting time for the Aboriginal tourism sector to become a key player in the tourism industry showcasing our unique point of difference to the rest of the world. Our Mission The premier Aboriginal advocacy body educating and informing government and industry on the needs of Aboriginal tourism businesses and their market. Our Core Values WAITOC empowers its members to embrace their cultural identity in order to honor and respect the ancestors and Elders both past and present. With traditions of the oldest living culture restored, the outcomes at a social and economic level become more progressive and offer the opportunity to create pride in its people. Showcasing these traditions fosters current and potential market understanding, sensitivity and awareness. Access and engagement with these traditions is a key consideration for the development of a sustainable Aboriginal tourism industry in Australia. WAITOC is the first organisation of its kind to embrace, promote and support the Aboriginal tourism sector in Western Australia. WAITOC's corporate values encompass both traditional and commercial components but are clearly differentiated as they give priority to the culturalisation of commerce and the commercialisation of culture. WAITOC is a place where people with an interest in Aboriginal tourism can come together to share, learn and benefit from each other. This provides the basis for business development, marketing and networking.

WAITOC State Election Plan Released As WA’s leading indigenous tourism organisation, WAITOC seeks continued support to deliver economic opportunities, youth empowerment and cultural preservation in its State Election Plan released today. Industry statistics show that Aboriginal tourism has contributed $63.8 million to the gross state product* and $41 million to gross state income – a soaring increase on previous years – but Aboriginal tourism is more than an economic driver, says WAITOC CEO Robert Taylor. “It represents one of the few opportunities for economic growth, youth empowerment and cultural preservation,” Rob says. “More than an industry, Aboriginal tourism bridges cultures and promotes understanding while empowering youth to embrace their heritage and explore careers in tourism. This sector inspires pride and offers opportunities for Aboriginal communities to share their heritage while creating pathways for sustainable livelihoods.” The WAITOC Election Plan has called for additional funding to create up to 2000 jobs through training and capacity building; developing the Aboriginal Tourism Accelerator and Business Support Hub Programs; supporting eco-tourism certification and initiatives; offering digital marketing and IT training for operators; accessing grants; encouraging community engagement with major tourism projects; and building a state-of-the-art training facility. “By investing $40 million in this plan, the government can ensure robust support for initiatives that empower Aboriginal youth, enabling them to actively participate in preserving and promoting their culture while benefiting economically and socially,” Rob says. “This funding is crucial to fostering a resilient and vibrant Aboriginal tourism industry that drives economic growth, enriches the community, and safeguards cultural heritage for future generations.” Click here to read WAITOC’s Election Plan in full: https://lnkd.in/g7vKTrXB

  • A new range of tours was launched last week with WAITOC member Beelya Cultural Tours, and supported by City of Armadale. The launch was featured in a story for the local Examiner. The first tour, at Forrestdale Lake covered Aboriginal culture and stories, the wetlands’ abundant food chain and traditional uses for many plants and animals. We look forward to seeing their success!

Absolutely thrilled that Western Australia has been included in Wanderlust’s first ever ‘The Origin List’ which is a compilation of 50 standout Indigenous tourism experiences from across the globe🇦🇺🌏 Aboriginal tours allow people to experience Western Australia through the eyes of the world’s oldest continuous living culture with either an Aboriginal-led tour or a guided experience. Rubibi/Broome is the particular area spotlighted in this piece, but there are indigenous experiences all throughout the state, offering an unparalleled opportunity to spend time with the ancient custodians of the land and soak up their breath-taking affinity with the natural world.
