While our President was in Canberra this week, with our National Board, our CEO Drew Wagner was presenting at the 13th NT Major Projects Conference highlighting the economic development opportunities for the Territory, and the current impediments that we need to overcome. All of this is underpinned by the fact that a strong NT development sector will always mean a strong NT economy.

About us
UDIA (NT) was established in October 2009 to represent the interests of land and built form property developers in the Northern Territory. The mission of the Urban Development Institute of Australia (NT) is to be the pre-eminent organisation representing and promoting the land development and built form industry in the Northern Territory. Working with Northern Territory, Local and Community Governments, the general community, and others in the property industry, the UDIA (NT) will advance the development of desirable, sustainable, economic and liveable NT communities. In doing this, the UDIA (NT) will take into consideration the uniqueness and diversity of the NT cultural and natural environment. Our current and future activities will include: - Working collaboratively with the Northern Territory and Local Governments to achieve positive outcomes for the industry; - Keeping members up to date on critical issues; - Organising conferences, seminars and other events featuring experts and industry leaders; - Providing opportunities for business and social networking; - Encouraging excellence in development through our State and National Awards program; - Promoting a code of ethics to all members; and - Collaborating with other industry bodies to deliver optimum results to our members.

This week our UDIA NT President Mr Andrew Giles joined our UDIA National Board, at Parliament House in Canberra for a number of meetings with Government and Shadow Members to discuss a number of Policy Initiatives and the upcoming Federal Election. Was great to see that housing and development is on both sides of politics agendas, as well as how well these policies align with the UDIA NT's current policy agendas, and we look forward to working with all into the future.

A good step in the right direction, but more still needs to be done in this space
Federal Government's investment to streamline building approvals welcomed by UDIA National. In his speech today, Federal Treasurer Jim Chalmers announced a new incentive National Productivity Fund, which will offer States and Territories up to $900 million to streamline building approvals and enact other pro-productivity reforms, which is set to boost competition and productivity across the economy. “This welcome announcement is in line with Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA)’s discussions across government and will incentivise states to achieve productivity including streamlining commercial planning and zoning and removing barriers to the uptake of modern construction methods,” said Col Dutton, UDIA National President. This fund is all about rewarding states with more revenue, where they deliver meaningful and measurable economic reforms to enable housing for the people of Australia.
