Today is International Day of People with Disabilities (IDPwD). Observed each year on December 3rd, it’s a day to increase awareness, understanding and acceptance of the 5.5 million people with disability in Australia. In Australia, 1 in 4 women will experience domestic violence in their lifetime, with 1 in 10 facing physical or sexual violence from a partner in the past year (AIHW, 2024). These statistics represent real lives, families, communities and futures at risk. From November 18 to December 13, we observe White Ribbon Month, a time to raise awareness and challenge the harmful attitudes and behaviours surrounding abuse. It's a reminder that we all have a role in creating a world where respect and equality thrive. White Ribbon Australia calls on every man to engage in this nationwide conversation and reflect on his role in ending violence. Rohan Collard from Dooga Waalitj Healing shares his deep experience working with Aboriginal men and boys, focusing on the importance of starting honest conversations and holding each other accountable.
