🏠✨ A veteran Sunshine Coast builder has just completed nine modular homes as part of a project that is helping address housing challenges in remote communities such as Thursday Island. Oly Homes based in Yandina and Cooroy, demonstrated the region's large-scale manufacturing capabilities with this project. Eighteen trucks transported the homes via Cairns, covering over 2000km by road, sea and barge in a carefully planned logistical operation. Designed for the local climate and cultural needs, the homes were delivered in partnership with the Queensland Government and the Uniting Church in Australia. Oly Homes General Manager Steven Nousala said modular homes provided a practical solution for remote communities. “Modular homes provide a great solution for communities where land supply and construction costs make traditional builds more difficult. Affordable modular homes are heading over to Thursday Island! Through our Housing Investment Fund, we’re partnering with the Uniting Church in Australia Property Trust to provide 8x affordable homes for young people and small families. Oly Homes will build the modular homes in their factory and ensure they are designed for the local climate and meet the needs of the Torres Strait community.
