  • We are pleased to partner with the National Gallery of Australia, thanks to the Sharing the National Collection initiative, to bring these works back to Retford Park for public display. #SharingtheNationalCollection #ArtAcrossAustralia #NationalGalleryAU #RetfordPark

Two works by Australian artists Charles Blackman and Russell Drysdale will adorn the walls of National Trust-listed estate Retford Park in New South Wales’ Southern Highlands, thanks to the Sharing the National Collection initiative. The two paintings were originally housed in Retford Park until their generous donation to the National Gallery’s collection by the late arts patron and philanthropist, James Fairfax AC. The loan will give visitors to Retford Park the chance to once again view them in the unique setting of their original home. See The countrywoman, 1946, by Drysdale and The anteroom, 1963, by Blackman on display from early November.     #SharingtheNationalCollection #ArtAcrossAustralia #NationalGalleryAU   Charles Blackman, The anteroom, 1963, National Gallery of Australia, Kamberri/Canberra, gift of Bridgestar Pty Ltd 2017. Donated through the Australian Government's Cultural Gifts Program

  • A wonderful day at Old Government House, Parramatta celebrating the completion of significant conservation works. A fine example of the community it takes to care for special places. Thank you to our donors, bequestors, specialist trades, NSW Government through Heritage NSW, our volunteers and staff. Collectively you’ve brought the heritage of Old Government House to life through conservation. We’d like to like to acknowledge one of our members Claudia Graham who recently passed away. Claudia made a generous gift to the education room in the Barracks to ensure students would be able to connect with history. Also bequestor, the late Peter Crittenden, and Peter’s partner Barbara Browne. We are grateful for Peter’s bequest and the impact it has on Old Government House’s conservation. What a remarkable legacy. To all involved, thank you, it’s an extraordinary result.

  • It’s wonderful to see the expanded state heritage listing for the Powerhouse Museum Ultimo, which now includes the Wran Building, the Galleria and the Harwood Building. The listing acknowledges the importance of the site, not only for its original uses as a power station and tram depot, but also as a museum.  The National Trust (NSW) supports the listing and has long advocated for the Powerhouse to be maintained as a museum dedicated to the applied arts and sciences. We will continue to advocate for the revitalisation of the museum to be guided by the heritage significance of the site.
