The statistics speak for themselves, we are collectively turning away more people then we support. The impact of not having access to justice is devastating for community members and our staff. Community Legal WA, Marie and our CEO Angie Perkins have shared their experiences and thoughts with Jessica Page 👇🏽 “ I am not sure what more we need to do, to highlight this issue. Access to justice is a fundamental right. We simply do not have adequate funding to meet the needs of people reaching out. Our staff hate having to turn people away. We have community driven solutions, led by experienced and passionate staff that need urgent support “ Angie Perkins Midlas CEO. A sincere thank you to Chelsea McKinney and team for your fierce advocacy and support to ensure our voices are heard.
This morning's article by Jessica Page of The West Australian really highlighted the pressure community legal services and other frontline services are under at this time. Well done to Angie Perkins from Midlas and thank you to Marie for sharing her story. Community legal services are having to turn away more people in need than ever. This state election, we need more investment so we can be there for WA families. From the article: 'Marie* urged anyone facing a wait list to hold onto hope. “Keep knocking . . . keep going to family court and keep asking for help, just don’t give up,” she said. Ms McKinney certainly hasn’t given up hope yet. “I’m feeling hopeful the Cook Government will do the right thing in the lead up to the election,” she said.' https://lnkd.in/g6-rFq9u
