The statistics speak for themselves, we are collectively turning away more people then we support. The impact of not having access to justice is devastating for community members and our staff. Community Legal WA, Marie and our CEO Angie Perkins have shared their experiences and thoughts with Jessica Page 👇🏽 “ I am not sure what more we need to do, to highlight this issue. 🎄Midlas staff had an absolute ball helping out at the Swan Aboriginal Community Christmas Celebration. It was incredible to see so many community members and services come together to celebrate and share. The kids loved Santa and all of the activities and treats. We Marched because you MATTER 💜 Yesterday with our friends and partners from the Swan FDV Network, alongside the community we came together to #PlayYourPart for #16Days. This is an important event for the Midland community and we heard first hand how victim/survivors play their part every day. Inspiring us to collectively ALWAYS believe victim/survivors. “We all have a role to play everyday, individually as people. We are all responsible for the changes we want to see and we must continue demanding this epidemic ends. Everyone in our community deserves to be safe, there is no excuse for abuse” - Angie Perkins Midlas CEO. During #16DaysinWA – We are reminded of the continued need to prevent family and domestic violence and abuse in our community. “Specifically, when considering this year’s theme, ‘Stopping Family and Domestic Violence: Play Your Part’. We are fortunate to have established the Midland Health Justice Partnership with St John of God Midland Public Hospital. These kinds of partnerships play a pivotal and significant role in prevention, as they provide an early intervention response to family and domestic violence and abuse. However, partnerships such as this can only be sustained if there is appropriate and continued funding. Until everyone ‘Plays their Part’ in the behavioral and attitude changes, at all levels of the community and government I can only echo previous comments made by esteemed colleague Nicola Jansen ‘not much will change’. People impacted by this preventable abuse, deserve immediate change as a priority” - Amanda Blake Principal Solicitor Midlas.
