Following a contract extension through to 30 June 2025 to provide surge workforce at eligible COVID-19 affected residential aged care facilities, Aspen Medical's Chief Medical Officer Dr Katrina Sanders is urging Australians to be cautious around the elderly this festive period. With visits to residential aged care facilities on the increase over the festive period and family taking elderly relatives out of facilities, additional caution is recommended. “This year, our Aged Care team has responded to 52 emergency and non-emergency activations and supported over 4,300 residents. “With the festive season upon us, we know many people are eager to visit loved ones. During this joyous and busy time, the risk of transmission tends to peak. To ensure the safety and well-being of elderly residents, we ask that family and friends adhere to the standard precautions.” What you can do to protect our most vulnerable: 1. Practice good hand hygiene: Washing hands thoroughly with soap and water or using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. 2. Follow respiratory hygiene/cough etiquette: Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your elbow when you cough or sneeze and dispose of tissues properly. 3. Maintain physical distance: Keep a safe distance from others, especially if they are showing symptoms of illness. 4. Avoid visits if you are unwell: If you have any symptoms of illness, please postpone your visit to protect our residents. 5. Adhere to advice and guidance from the Aged Care Provider (remembering we have the best interests of your loved one and other residents at heart) – This may include the use of Personal Protective Equipment such as Masks, shields and gowns especially if you are feeling unwell, or requesting RAT testing. That's Christmas, all wrapped up! 🎁 Our Commercial Director, Sujata Ganeish, has taken advantage of her paid volunteer leave to wrap presents at Capalaba Park Shopping Centre, all in support of Youngcare . Youngcare is a national not-for-profit organisation revolutionising the way young people with high care disabilities live – with freedom, dignity, and choice. They are the driving force behind creating a more inclusive Australia for young people with high physical support needs. Giving back to our communities is a key theme for our team - and that's why every Aspen Medical team member has two paid volunteering days in addition to other leave entitlements. Nice work Sujata! 👏 #AspenMedical #Youngcare #InclusiveAustralia #VolunteerWork #GivingBack

‘Young Doctors’ graduate from Perth, Peel and South West Schools! 30 students from Ashburton Drive Public School in Perth and Waroona District High School in the South West recently graduated from the Malpa Young Doctors for Life program. 15 more students from Djidi Djidi Aboriginal School in Peel will graduate in early 2025. The program empowers Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal students aged between nine and 12 to take control of their health and help shape better health outcomes for their families and communities. Over the course of the 15-week program, the students learnt hands-on skills from Aboriginal Elders, doctors and paramedics in health leadership, nutrition, hygiene, and social and emotional well-being. Today’s graduation is the first in Western Australia thanks to Earbus Foundation of Western Australia, a children's charity that works to reduce the incidence of middle ear disease in Aboriginal and at-risk children in WA, who introduced Malpa to the schools in the region. The Malpa program has benefited from $100,000 in support from global charity the Alcoa Foundation, which will assist the Aspen Medical Foundation to continue working with Malpa, which it has done for more than a decade. Aspen Medical Foundation Chair Sian Keys said the graduation is a celebration of the students’ achievement of weeks of work focused on a wide range of health issues, identifying solutions and dreaming of what the future holds. “Because the projects are locally designed and delivered, it is a chance for communities to celebrate their shared achievement and commissioning the Young Doctors to be influencers in their community to bring about better health futures for everyone,” Ms Keys said. #AspenMedical #AspenMedicalFoundation #Malpa #AlcoaFoundation #SocialImpact

Christmas has come early for the children at the Aspen Medical-managed Lautoka Public Hospital in Fiji. 🎄 🎅 Thanks to the efforts of our own team, FIJI Water Foundation, FIJI Water, and Neptune Pacific Direct Line, the Children's Ward received a makeover thanks to the Wonderful Neighbour program. The ward's waiting area and restroom facilities were refreshed, with a new washing machine, dryer, swing set and trikes were donated. The additional work included cleaning, painting, tiling, renovations, landscaping, and utility installations. Aspen Medical’s CEO in Fiji, Gavin Whiteside, expressed gratitude for the community's support and shared that the work done by the foundation will benefit many families for years to come. #AspenMedical #AspenMedicalFiji #LautokaHospital #SocialImpact #WonderfulNeighbour

For the month of November, members of the Aspen Medical team participated in the Indigenous Marathon Foundation's Virtual Run. 🏃 🏃♀️ The Indigenous Marathon Foundation is a health promotion charity that uses running to celebrate Indigenous resilience and achievement. They aim to create inspirational Indigenous leaders and promote healthy, active lifestyles through various programs and events. Together, our team ran and walked a total of 1,388.07 km. That's from Canberra to Rockhampton in Queensland, or on an international scale, from London to just outside of Rome! Their incredible effort raised $3,416, which included matching funds from Aspen Medical. A huge thank you to everyone who participated and supported this great cause! 🙌 #AspenMedical #IMFVirtualRun #CommunitySupport #GivingBack #SocialImpact
