During the panel, Lerato highlighted the unintended consequences of fee-free education, noting how it created significant gaps in university infrastructure and funding. He emphasized the importance of wraparound support, especially for students with disabilities, and stressed the need for stable and inclusive government policies to encourage private sector participation in student accommodation. I had the privilege of being part of a panel discussion at the National Summit on Higher Education Funding, hosted by UNISA Enterprise in collaboration with Business Day Dialogues on October 16, 2024, at The Empire Conference & Events Venue in Johannesburg. During the panel, i highlighted the unintended consequences of fee-free education has had on the discus and the distribution of funds across the higher education sector. I further noted how it created significant gaps in university infrastructure and funding. One of the points I strongly put forward was the importance of wraparound support, especially for students with disabilities, and stressed the need for stable and inclusive government policies to encourage private sector participation in student accommodation.
