A bulldozer or dozer has a tractor with a chassis, cabin, and hydraulic system to control a front-mounted blade and rear-mounted rippers or scarifiers. Dozers are used to cut, push, and move material short distances and for tasks like land clearing, stripping, ditching, and digging. Dozer blades come in straight, universal, and combination styles for pushing or grading materials. Dozers also have rear-mounted rippers to break up hard surfaces. Rippers can be single, multi-shank, towed, integrated, or mounted on the dozer blade for various ripping applications.

Bulldozer or dozer
Main components of dozer
• Tractor :Chassis and cabin • A frame mounted unit a blade in front of tractor • Rear mounted rippers or scarifiers • Hydraulic system to control the movement of front frame with blade and rear rippers Dozers are mainly used for cutting and pushing the material for short distances up to 100m. Types of dozer 1. Dozer or bulldozer : blade is perpendicular to the direction of travel of dozer 2. Angle dozer : blade is set at an angle (250 ) with the direction of travel of dozer 3. Tilt dozer: blade is tilted by raising one end up to 25 cm above the other.(ditching) 4. Push dozer :used push plate for pushing the scraper unit during digging and loading operation 5. Tree dozer : used for removing trees Types of dozer • Types of dozer according to their mountings 1. Crawler tractor mounted 2. Wheel tractor mounted • Types of dozer based on method of raising and lowering the blades: 1. Cable controlled 2. Hydraulic controlled Wheel dozer Crawler dozer Application of dozer 1. Land clearing : removing soil, trees, vegetation 2. Stripping: removal of top soil 3. Side hill cut: 4. Back filling: fill trench, ditch, 5. Ditching: rough ditch 6. Spreading 7. Dozing rocks and frozen ground: remove rocks and maintain haul roads, clearing floors 8. Digging 9. Breaking pile Biggest Dozer capacity • Engine power : 574 KW • Weight of bulldozer:93 tons • Capacity of blade : 32 cubic meter • Ripper : single , 4 operating position • Digging depth of ripper: 1.8m with a force of 26 tons • Dozer blade or mould board • Is heavy blade having slightly concave profile attached in the front of tractor • Blade is connected to tractor with the help of two arms and a yoke • Blade has a replaceable cutting edge • Blade is controlled by hydraulic actuator or cylinder. • Sizes of blade are: wide: 2-7.5 m and height: 0.8- 1.5 m Types of dozer blade :A straight blade ("S blade") which is short and has no lateral curve and no side wings and can be used for fine grading and moved heavy matetials. • A universal blade ("U blade") which is tall and very curved, and has large side wings to carry more material over longer distances. • An "S-U" combination blade which is shorter, has less curvature, and smaller side wings. This blade is typically used for pushing piles of large rocks, such as at a quarry. (WIKIPEDIA) Types of blades for special applications 1. Angle blade :cutting ditch, back filling 2. Special application U-blade: move high volume of light and non cohesive material: coal, wood chips etc 3. Land fill blade : fill material 4. Clearing blade: cut tree, pile vegetation and drainage ditches 5. V-blade: Shear trees, stumps and brushes at ground level 6. Rack : clearing small stumps, toots or rocks Special blade a. u-blade b. Straight blade c. angle blade d. special application U-blade e. Land field blade f. clearing blade g. V-blade h. rack Dozer blade Dozer ripper Dozer rippers The ripper is the long claw-like device on the back of the bulldozer. It is made up shank, adaptor, tip and protector. Rippers are used to break or fractured hard material into small pieces Rippers can come as a single (single shank/giant ripper) or in groups of two or more (multi shank rippers). Usually, a single shank is preferred for heavy ripping Types of rippers 1. Single shank ripper: for breaking hard material 2. Multi-shank ripper : for ripping easy penetrated and fractured material Types of ripper according mounting: 3. Towed units : generally cable operated 4. Integrated units : hydraulically operated 5. Back ripper : mount on dozer blade or pivot in the mounting brackets Types of rippers Types of integral rippers: a. Hinge rippers b. Parallelogram ripper Types of rippers 1. Fixed multiple shank ripper: simple ripping operation; up and down movement during digging operation 2. Variable multiple shank ripper :enable to change the angle of its shank with the help of tilt hydraulic cylinder; used where the quality of rock is not consistent. 3. Fixed giant ripper : single powerful shank 4. Variable giant rippers: Single powerful shank having tilt hydraulic cylinder. Rippers Ripper shank with tip
