A. Hard or Hard Overweight Landing Inspection Requirements
(1) Definitions
There are several categories of hard or hard overweight landing:
(a) Hard landing
A hard landing is a landing with an aircraft weight equal to or less than the Maximum Landing
Weight (MLW) and:
- a vertical acceleration (VRTA) equal to or more than 2.6 g and less than 2.86 g at aircraft
Center of Gravity (CG).
(b) Severe hard landing
A severe hard landing is a landing with an aircraft weight equal to or less than the Maximum
Landing Weight (MLW) and:
- a vertical acceleration (VRTA) equal to or more than 2.86 g at aircraft Center of Gravity
(CG).
(c) Hard overweight landing
A hard overweight landing is a landing with an aircraft weight more than the Maximum
Landing Weight (MLW) and:
- a vertical acceleration (VRTA) equal to or more than 1.7 g and less than 2.6 g at aircraft
Center of Gravity (CG).
(d) Severe hard overweight landing
A severe hard overweight landing is a landing with an aircraft weight more than the Maximum

Landing Weight (MLW) and:

- a vertical acceleration (VRTA) equal to or more than 2.6 g at aircraft Center of Gravity
(CG).
(e) High pitch-rate landing
A high pitch-rate landing is a landing during which the pitch rate is more than 10 Deg/sec.
(2) Hard or hard overweight landing confirmation
(a) It is the responsibility of the flight crew to make a report if they think there was a hard or hard
overweight landing.
(b) After a crew report of a hard or hard overweight landing, you must confirm the impact
parameters to know the category of the landing.
(Ref. Fig. Flow Chart for Aircraft with Enhanced DMU/FDIMU SHEET 1)
1 To know the impact parameters, refer to:
- the DMU load report <15> (Ref. AMM TASK 31-37-00-200-001) or,
- the QAR data read out (if available) or,
- the DFDR read out.
If load report <15> is available, get the values:
Line Value for
CE GW
S3 and T3 VRTA

NOTE: For more information on how to read load report <15> (Ref. AMM D/O 31-37-51-
00) .

NOTE: T3 is only available if there was a bounce landing.

For more information on how to read load report <15> (Ref. AMM D/O 31-37-51-
00) .

Read the report <15> values to get the impact parameters:

- Aircraft weight in kg = GW x 10 or
- Aircraft weight in lbs = GW x 100
- VRTA (vertical acceleration) in g = VRTA / 100
Example: For load report <15> displays:
- GW = 6321, if the aircraft weight is in kg, the aircraft weight is 63210 kg or
- GW = 1393, if the aircraft weight is in lbs, the aircraft weight is 139300 lbs.
- VRTA: 0291, the vertical acceleration is 2.91 g
(c) Find the category of the landing with the flow charts.
(Ref. Fig. Flow Chart for Aircraft with Enhanced DMU/FDIMU SHEET 1)
(Ref. Fig. Hard or Hard Overweight landing Category for Aircraft with Enhanced DMU/FDIMU
SHEET 1)
1 If the category of the landing is:
- a hard landing or
- a hard overweight landing:
You must do the inspections for that category.
2 If the category of the landing is:
- a severe hard landing or
- a severe hard overweight landing, you must:
a do the inspections for that category,

b send the DFDR data (raw data) to Airbus,

c give data about the event and inspection findings,
d contact Airbus for technical instructions,
e obey the instructions from Airbus before the next flight.
3 If you cannot confirm the impact parameter values with the DMU/FDIMU or the QAR or the
DFDR:
a You must do the inspection for a severe hard or severe hard overweight landing.
b At the earliest opportunity, but not later than 200FC/30 days, confirm the impact
parameters from the DMU/FDIMU or the QAR or the DFDR to find the category of the
hard landing.
- If the landing is a hard or hard overweight landing:
No more inspection is required.
- If the landing is a Severe hard or Severe hard overweight landing:
1 send the DFDR data (raw data) to Airbus,
2 give data about the event and inspection findings,
3 contact Airbus for technical instructions,

(3) Inspection preparation
(a) We recommend that you get information from the flight crew about the landing conditions, e.g.:
- touch down straight, drifting, wing low, tail or nose heavy,
- touch down on main gears or on main and nose gears or high pitch rate on nose gear.

NOTE: After a hard or hard overweight landing, three touchdown configurations are possible:
- hard touchdown on main gears only,
- hard touchdown on nose gear only or high pitch-rate,
- hard touchdown on nose and main gears.

- weight of the aircraft,

- quantity of fuel in each tank,
- instrument indications,
- other information such as noise that could be related to a structural failure.
(b) After a hard touchdown on main gears only, the inspection of the nose gear area is not
necessary.
(c) After a hard touchdown on nose gear only or high pitch-rate:
- only the inspection of the nose gear and NLG section of the fuselage areas is necessary,
- send the DFDR data (raw data) to Airbus,
- give data about the event and inspection findings,
- contact Airbus for technical instructions,
- obey the instructions from Airbus before the next flight.
(d) After a hard touchdown on nose and main gear:

1. Examine the Engine
A. Turn the fan rotor with your hand X
in the direction of normal engine
rotation. Make sure that there is no
bearing roughness, unusual noises and
bindings.
- Rubbing marks on the fan track X
attrition liner are normal. But,
a new rub mark can be a sign that
contact occurred between the fan blade
tips and the attrition liner during
the hard or hard overweight landing.
If you see this, then examine the
fan blade tips for signs of tip bluing
(overheat) or cracking of the tip.
It can be necessary to use a mirror to
see the reverse side of the fan blade
or to remove the blades for detailed
inspection.
B. Examine the primary nozzle. Make sure X
that:
- it is correctly attached to the
engine
- there is no distortion or cracks,
no loose rivets, no signs of
shearing or delamination.
C. Lift the fan cowl doors and hold them X
