STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Name: Pappala Prathyusha

Major: Master of Science in Computer Science (MS in Computer Science)

Technology plays a crucial role in imparting a remarkable evolution to the modern

society. I have always been fascinated by the fact of how technology made life
easier for mankind right from replacing handwritten postal mails with emails to
self-driving cars today. This piqued my interest and I always wanted be a part of
this fascinating revolution. With the United States being the center of this
technology revolution it is a no-brainer for me to choose the USA as my next
destination in my endeavor to learn and use my skills to build modern
technologies. This is perhaps the main reason why I am writing this statement to
brief the purpose of my long lived passion. My interest in this field prompted me to
read lots of interesting articles and follow great personalities in the field but most
of my efforts were very random and somewhat directionless but during high
school, I got a better direction and understanding about core computer science
when my brother took computer science as his major in his undergrad. I got
curious to know and learn more and took computer science as my major in my
undergraduate studies in GITAM University at Visakhapatnam Bay area.

Being an inquisitive student, my fascination with technology coupled with the

learnings of coding and core Computer Science concepts, I started creating small
projects for myself by searching on the internet like creating a calculator
application and working on them. This greatly enhanced my learning skills as well
dealing with ambiguity. Slowly, by the end of my sophomore year I became
proficient with a programming language, solidified my understanding about the
data structures which made switching between languages easy and started
understanding the science of computer machines at the grass root level knowing
things applications function, interact over the network, etc. My four years in
undergrad provided me with a solid grounding on core topics such as Data
Structures, Operating Systems, Computer Networks, Image Processing, Software
Engineering, Embedded Systems as well as on modern topics like Artificial
Intelligence and Machine Learning.
My passion and strength lie firmly in developing software and this pushed me to
look for opportunities in the industry. As a part of this, I have interned at MTA,
Hyderabad, India under the supervision of Mr. Rajan and successfully completed a
project on Image Encryption and Decryption using java swing. Not only was I able
to deliver the results on time and met deadlines accurately, I also took the
initiative, suggested improvements and was able to convince the team that it would
benefit the product. Upon completion of the project, pushing it to production gave
me immense pride and satisfaction and was thoroughly applauded for my work by
my mentor and manager. My final year project is developing a 3D racing car game
using a process based upon agile development; an evolutionary method.

Outside the course work, I have also been actively involved in IEEE and GUSAC
club (GITAM University Science Activity Center). I was part of the organization
committee which conducts the annual technical fest in my university. As a part of
this committee I designed, planned and organized several technical talks, seminars
and hackathons. I also stood first in a hackathon which was organized by IEEE
student chapter in my university. This kind of involvement in extra-curricular
activitieshelped me build and boost my confidence levels and also helped me
refresh myself from the rigorous curriculum.

I choose University of Texas, Arlington because of the strong emphasis your

program has on research, which appeals both to my intellect and my aspirations. I
have gone through your departmental website and researched about the courses and
curriculum and have found that this place has excellent infrastructure and
intellectually stimulating academic environment which is most suited for my future
research plans. I discussed about your program with some of my senior professors
in my department and they too have recommended it without any reservations. I
am very confident thatobtaining a Master's degree in Computer Science from your
university would help me enhance my technical skills and aid me in achieving
success in my endeavors to excel in the field of Computer Science being part of
building new software that would prove beneficial for the society.
