It was the time of the Y2k problem when I studied high school, during this time India was
growing in the IT field with many software companies booming. I think that was the time I
made love with computers and wanted to become a computer engineer. I am Safir Jameel
M, from Kerala - a southern state in India. After completing my undergraduate in Computer
Science and Engineering, I’ve been pursuing a career in the field of IT for more than 8 years,
first year I interned as a software programmer and then moved to another country (Qatar)
for better opportunities and international exposure, I worked there in a sports organization
for more than 7 years in various departments. Now, in addition to my knowledge of
Software Technologies, I have an appreciation for data-driven technologies. I am extremely
interested in the Master’s degree in Computer Science at CSU Bakersfield.
During my schooling, I was just enjoying the basic fun with computers just like other kids.
But when I realized meticulously the amazing things computers are capable of doing, I
decided that my career should be associated with it. I had put in a lot of effort to secure and
complete my Undergraduate Degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Kannur
University, which is considered to be one of the best in my state. Data Structures &
Algorithms, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, and Database Management
Systems had been my favourite subjects and I excelled in them during my course. There was
an internet boom during my college years, hence I developed a keen interest in knowing
how social networking works and how technology reshaped communications and media.
The way Artificial Intelligent systems extracted huge chunks of data from the user and
predicted human behaviour always fascinated me. I made sure that I acquired the right
experience to keep my future goals open. My undergraduate studies gave me good
knowledge about computer science and engineering concepts. During the course, I
completed a group project on ‘Face Recognition and Identification’ using Artificial Neural
Networks which has been very insightful to pitch into a domain that I consider as the future.
The reason to choose this course at CSU Bakersfield University is, it has subjects that satisfy
my interests like Software Engineering, Data Structures and Algorithms. The syllabus of this
course feels like a bundle packed with my interest areas and it gives me a strong urge to
achieve success in this field. Since I have worked with the data science team in the sports
sector, I have a strong background in user perspective and good knowledge of data
collection and dashboard building. I have worked on software projects based on agile
methodology. I believe these exposures would make me worthy of this particular course.
I am aspired to contribute to the sustainable development of useful products through this
course. I would create awareness for the well-being of people and responsible consumption
and production of resources. My degree project would be based on how to design an e-
commerce platform with 3-d modelling of products for people with physical or cognitive
impairments. I strongly believe that after completing the computer science master's degree,
I can be a successful software architect. Also, down the line, I would like to focus on
Industrial Research on Artificial Intelligence for a better contribution to the relevant
industry.

I have followed the above-quoted lines throughout my career and life to reach where I am.
This helps me keep acquiring new skills relevant to the industry and makes me a valuable
asset to the organization of which I am being part. I knew from the start of employment that
data is a vital part of every organization where all important decisions are made. I learned
technologies to work on data to get useful insights and built dashboards, and completed
courses on programming languages like Python, Java, and front-end technologies which
helped me to build my portfolio in software.
An adept research career can only be built upon the firm foundation of a good education. I
am well aware that CSU Bakersfield university expects high standards from its students and
I am confident that I would be able to live up to them. My undergraduate thesis, course
work, and experience are testimony to the fact that I am a dedicated student and I am
genuinely interested in learning more about Computer Science degree offered at New
Haven. I hope that I would be given a chance to receive an education under the guidance of
brilliant academicians and a first-class research infrastructure at this esteemed university.
