As a facilitator, you are expected to orient the learners on how to use
this module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while
allowing them to manage their own learning at home. Furthermore, you are
expected to encourage and assist the learners as they do the tasks included
in the module.

Let Us Learn
What do you see on billboards each time you take a ride to school or go out
with your family? Almost every day, consumers like you buy different items
from a grocery, the supermarkets, and even from your school canteen. When
choosing items to buy, do you make sure that these items will have favorable
effect to your health?
In this module you will learn how to take care of your health as you buy
products for your everyday living. We will discuss more about The
Importance of Consumer Health at the end of the lesson you are going to

Let Us Study
People consume goods, services, and gifts of nature for their day-to-day
existence on Earth. It is with this reason that people should be aware of the
vital health topics and be educated about preventive medicine and services.
In order to achieve good quality of living. Consumer health provides
individuals with knowledge, skills, aptitudes, values, and capacity to become
responsible consumers.
1. Critical Awareness
The consumer fulfills this responsibility by asking questions about the
quality, use and prices of goods and services.
2. Action
The consumer fulfills this responsibility by knowing his or her rights
when it comes to buying or choosing products and services.
3. Social Concern
The consumer fulfills this responsibility by showing care for senior
citizens as well as persons with disabilities and in need.
4. Environment Awareness
This refers to the consumer’s responsibility to understand the
environmental consequences of his or her consumption habits. It
encompasses or covers the individuals and social responsibility to
conserve natural resources and protect the earth for the future.
5. Solidarity
The refer to the consumer’s responsibility to band together as
consumers to pool their strength and influence in promoting and protecting
common interests.
The Eight Basic Consumer Rights
1. The Right to Basic Needs
This is the right that guarantee survival, adequate food, clothing,
shelter, health care, education, and sanitation.

A wise and smart consumer know what he or she wants because of
time-tested and proven and tested. You can be a wise consumer. Do not easily
believe the advertisements you see, read, or hear. You should know how to
decide which products you have to buy instead of merely depending on
advertisements.
