LET US KNOW

In the past learning activity sheet help you understand how the government works
with various institutions and sectors to address the issues and concerns.
Now, this learning activity sheet will help you to understand the recommended ways
to manage the health trends, issues and concerns. It is important to know these
recommended ways for you to be aware and to learn how to manage the different trends,
issues and concerns that as an adolescent like you may encounter.

Consumer Health (Republic Act No.7394)


Choosing the right sources of information before investing your money on
health products and health services is necessary. Poor consumer choices can be
harmful to health. As a wise consumer, you must be critical of the health information
advertised through mass media, you must think first and must be observable,
reliable and wise in your decision. It is important that you know how to evaluate the
reliability of the information. One way of managing the issues and concerns in
consumer health is to know and evaluate the sources of information when using
health products and services.
Here are the criteria that you can use in evaluating health information.
1. Credibility - it means that the source must be from competent and reliable
individual, agency and organization. The information must be up-to-date.
2. Content - it means you look at the following:
a) Accuracy - the information must be correct and complete with
scientific basis
b) Disclaimer - it state the restrictions, scope, purpose authorities and
freshness of the information, and the source of health information. It must
emphasize that the health information is general and it is not medical
recommendation.
c) Completeness - the information must be complete annd balanced.
There must be no hidden or missing facts about the subject.
3. Disclosure - it means it should include the purpose for giving the health
information.
4. Interactivity - It must provide means for consumer’s comment or to give
their feedback about the health information.

The criteria in evaluating health products and services are the following:
1. Cost - compare the price of the same brad or similar brands at several stores
before you decide to buy.
2. Features - look for the features that are beneficial or useful to you.
3. Quality - look for a well-made product that works well.
4. Warranty - before buying an expensive product, ask for warranty. That is repairing,
replacing the product if it does not work properly or refunding your money.
5. Safety - you should always consider safety when buying home, recreational, sports
equipment/products, or using health services.
6. Recommendations - ask some trusted adults who have used the products or
services that you plan to purchase. They can give you reliable information about it.
As a wise consumer one’s must know how to evaluate and get information from the most
reliable sources.

Reproductive Health(RA 10354)


It is necessary to know the importance of responsible parenthood and
reproductive health in the lives of every family. Each family must promote the
welfare and protect the growth of their children for them to become responsible
citizens and parents in the future. To manage the concerns in reproductive health
one’s must know how to follow the important guiding principles that will help each
family promoting welfare and protecting the growth of their children.
Important guiding principles that will help each family are the following:
1. Respect for protection and fulfillment of reproductive health and rights
which seek to promote the rights and welfare of every person particularly couples,
adult individuals, women and adolescents
2. This act recognizes that abortion is illegal and punishable by law, the
government shall ensure that all women needing care for post-abortive
complications and all other complications arising from pregnancy, labor and delivery,
and related issues shall be treated and counseled in a humane, nonjudgmental and
compassionate manner in accordance with law and medical ethics
3. The state shall respect individuals preferences and choice of family
planning methods that are in accordance with their religious convictions and
cultural beliefs, taking into consideration the states obligations under various human
rights instruments
4. Each family shall have the right to determine its ideal family size; provided,
however, that the state shall equip each parent with the necessary information on all
aspects of the family life, including reproductive health and responsible parenthood,
in order to make that determination
5. That a comprehensive reproductive health program addresses the needs of
people throughout their life cycle.
Seeking of correct guiding will prevent adolescent in entering early pregnancy and
eliminating the diseases called HIV and AIDS.

Social Health
Peer influence also concerns you as adolescents. You are in the developmental stage
wherein you build lasting relationships with peers. Peers pressure plays an enormous role in
influencing your decision in trying drugs and other activities that may involve you to commit
to some issues like cybercrime, child pornography, hazing and other dangerous acts.
In order to help you avoid these issues, it is necessary that you know and understand what
protective factors should be enhanced and what risk should be avoided. You should also
learn how to develop good decision-making and resistance skills. These skills will help you
refuse offer of drugs and pressure from peers and make responsible choices for yourself.
Here are some way to avoid these issues and concerns:
1. Select friends and activities that will not expose you to drug use and you can
reduce problem of peer pressure
2. Engaged yourself in wholesome activities and hobbies like sports
3. Do a volunteer work in your school or community
4. Have yourself a adult role models that lead you to focus in positive outlook in life
5. Stress is also a reason why some people turn to use drugs, if you will find ways to
learn positive ways to handle stress like maintaining your good health, try exciting and
challenging hobbies
6. Make yourself healthy at all times, exercise regularly, eat a healthy diet, and get
enough sleep.
Always keep in mind that, Prevention is the best way to avoid involving to these kind of
issues and concerns.

Safety in the environment


You and your family safety is one of the concern of an adolescents like you. In your
previous lesson pollution and road safety are the two most usual issues that concern you as
a member of community and you learn some of the policies that address these concerns.
With environmental issues like pollution and road safety it’s natural to look for ways we can
protect and secure our safety and have a clean environment.
1. Involved yourself in activities that may help in preventing pollution in your community.
2. Follow the preventive measures in driving or as commuters try a green transportation and
travel habits
3. Plant trees and landscape with native plants in your community
4. Don’t use plastics or single- use items
5. Segregate waste products
6. Avoid using hazardous chemicals
7. Compost your food waste and try eat more vegetables
