Bladder emptying Contraction of the urinary bladder, Decrease
bladder capacity, Increased frequency of
ureteral peristaltic waves, Increased tone and
peristalsis in the GI tract, gastric secretions

Complications Medication Administration


Headaches, malaise, miosis, bronchospasm, heart block, PO - ONSET 30-90min
syncope/cardiac arrest, bradycardia, hypotension, PEAK - 1hr
abdominal disconfort, diarrhea, nausea, salivation, Duration - 6hr
vomiting, sweating, hypothermia,
SUBCUT ONSET 5-15min
PEAK-15-30min
Duration - 2hr
Contraindications/Precautions
Hypersensitivity, mechanical obstruction of the GI, or GU
tract.
Cautionsly: history of asthma, ulcer disease, Nursing Interventions
cardiovascular disease, epilepsy, hyperthyroidism Monitor BP, pulse, and
respirations before adm. and for
at least 1 hr after subcut admi.
Monitor intake and output ratios.
Palpate abdomen for bladder
Interactions
distention. Notify physician if
Drug-Drug  Quinidine  and  procainamide  may antagonize drug fails to relieve condition
cholinergic effects. Additive cholinergic effects with
 cholinesterase inhibitors. Use with  ganglionic blocking
agents  may result in severe hypotension. Do not use with
 depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agents. Client Education
Advise patient to report
abdominal discomfort,
Evaluation of Medication Effectiveness salivation, sweating, or flushing
Increase in bladder function and tone to health care professional.
Caution patient to change
positions slowly to minimize
orthostatic hypotension.Do not
