Course Title Computing in Industrial Engineering

Course Code IE 332 Lab : 4
Assignment
Lab Title Arena Part 3

American University of Middle East (AUM) College of Engineering & Technology IE332 Lab
Objectives:

• Explain the concept of modeling and simulation

• Identify the basic tools in Arena
• Create basic simulation models in Arena
• Analyze the simulation report
• Conduct scenario/what-if analysis

Higher Education.

Learning Outcomes:

• Create basic simulations via Arena

• Analyze the simulation output
• Learn Decide Module
• Differentiate Attributes vs. Variables
• Use Draw feature of Arena

In Lab Activities:

A presentation about Simulation, Modeling and Arena will be shown during the lecture
while creating the simulation. Simulation system will consist of the following parts:

• Use the “Create” module to create the entities which will enter to the system

• Double click on “Create 1” and change its name to “Create Parts”. Write “Application” as
entity type. Change the “Units” to “Hours”. Define the “Value” as “2”; this means that 1
Part will arrive to the system every 2 hours through an exponential distribution.

• Drag a “Process” module, in front of the “Create parts” and connect them with
using the “Connect” button.

• Double –click on “Process 1” and change the name as “Process Parts”.

Add Machine 1 as a Resource and follow the below delay type

• Add a decide module and name it “Decide if part is accepted”

• Make sure the decision module is set to 2 way by chance

• Drag 2 “Assign” modules for the true and false values of the decision

• If the Assign module is accepted name it “Count the accepted parts”.

• Add a Variable and name it as shown below

• If the Assign module is rejected name it “Number of Times Part is processed”.

• Add an Attribute and name it as shown below

• Connect the Assign module “Count the accepted parts” to the dispose.
Name the dispose as shown below

• The other assign module “Number of Times Part is processed” will be

connected to another Decide module.
