Semi-detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 1

August 2, 2017

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the pupils are expected to:
 identify the different Philippine coins (in circulation);
 give the value of each coins; and
 read and write the value of each coin.

III. Instructional Procedures
A. Introducing the task
 Show the pupils real Philippine coins. Let them identify the
different coins. Ask them when they use these coins.
(We use coins when we pay or buy something, when we give
change, when we pay our fare.)
 Teacher ask the students:
1. Which of these coins do you often use?
(Pupils may give various answers except for the 1-
centavo, 5-centavo, and 10-centavo coins which are not
used very often)
2. What are the things that you buy with your 25-centavo
coin? 1-peso coin? 5- peso coin? and 10-peso coin?
(It is expected that pupils give different answers
depending on their exposures and experiences in their
locality.)
B. Performing the task
 Have the students bring out their coins.
 Individually let them observe the appearance of each coin.
 Ask the students to observe the shape, color, size, appearance
and what can be seen on the faces of the coins.

C. Discussing the observations


 Teacher will show pictures of different Philippine coins.
 Teacher’s Guide Questions:
1. What is/are the shapes of the coins?
2. Which coin has two colors?
3. Which coin has a hole in the center?
4. Which coins have prints of faces?
5. Can you find a year written in your coin? What is the
year?
6. Is there a number written in your coin? What is the
number?
 Possible observations:
1. The 10-piso coin has two colors.
2. The 5-sentimo coin has a hole in the center.
3. The smallest coin is the 5-sentimo while the 10 peso and
the 5 peso have the same size.
4. Some coins have prints of faces on one of its faces while
others do not have.
5. All coins have 1993 and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas on
one face and Republika ng Pilipinas and a number on the
other face.
 Let the pupils answer Worksheet 1. Then discuss the answers.
Buluhaton: Ikonekta ang atubangan nga nawong sa
matag salapi ngadto sa likod nga nawong niini gamit ang linya.
 The teacher will show to students the coins and tell them the
value of each coin. (giving emphasis on ¢ for centavo and ₱ for
pesos)
D. Reinforcing the concepts and skills
 Have the pupils answer Worksheet 2.
Buluhaton: Lingini ang hustong bili sa matag sinsilyo.
E. Summarizing the lesson
 Show picture of the coins and let the students name them. Ask
the students their value and how it is written.
 Emphasize that the symbol for ¢ centavos is while ₱ for pesos.
F. Applying to new and other situations
 Home Activity
Buluhaton sa Balay: Linginan ang sinsilyo nga angay gamiton
sa pagpalit sa butang.
