We are proud to announce that ETS will continue to play an active role in bringing the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) to the nation through 2029! The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) has awarded us two significant contracts: 🔹 Coordinate design planning for all NAEP assessments, conduct psychometric and statistical analyses and produce reporting products and tools 🔹 Support NCES strategic planning: coordinate research and development and align program and operations across multiple contractors. Why it matters: NAEP is the only nationally representative and ongoing assessment of what America's students know and can do. With our 40-year legacy of supporting and innovating NAEP, ETS is best positioned to ensure it remains a vital tool for informing educational policy and shaping the future of learning. A huge 🌟 thank you 🌟 to Terran Brown, Jay Campbell, Amy Dresher, Robert Finnegan, Helena (Yue) Jia and Sarah López Rhame, along with many other brilliant minds at ETS who made this win a reality—and to Kadriye Ercikan and Amit Sevak, whose dedication continues to drive our mission forward! We are excited to continue incorporating cutting-edge technologies and methodologies into "The Nation's Report Card" in this next chapter. #ETSResearch #NAEP #TheNationsReportCard #largescaleassessment #win #futureofassessment #teamETS

Did you know the next round of NAEP, The Nation's Report Card, will include a powerful new tool? The new 🌟 Percentile Profiles 🌟feature provides a deeper understanding of student performance by comparing results across different groups. Here's how it works: NAEP asked 8th graders, "How many days did you miss school last month?" Nationally, 33% of students reported being absent for three or more days. But with Percentile Profiles, we can dig deeper and uncover that: 🔹46% of lower-performing students missed three or more days. 🔹21% of higher-performing students missed three or more days. This suggests that lower-performing students are more likely to miss school. We need to address attendance issues to support student success. The new Percentile Profiles tool helps unveil critical insights, giving educators and policymakers the tools to create meaningful change. 👉 Read this article by Robert Finnegan (ETS), Ebony Walton (NCES), and David J. 💡 AI will be a classroom staple soon, like calculators in math, says Tenaha O'Reilly. 🍎 Teachers are the real experts who can help refine AI tools. “They can tell us, ‘This doesn’t quite look right,’ and we can follow up and investigate,” says Beata Beigman Klebanov. 🤖 When designed responsibly, AI can bridge gaps for multilingual learners by translating texts or rephrasing questions, adds Diego Zapata-Rivera. And what do YOU think? Can AI bots help kids learn how to read? 🎉 Kudos to our scientists for being featured in this K-12 Dive article. 🌍 Greetings from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where Jason Hill, Peter V. Yeager and Jeremie Rossignol just wrapped up productive meetings with education leaders, policymakers and forward-thinkers, including representatives from the Education & Training Evaluation Commission, Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development - KSA and aramco. This visit reinforces our commitment to powering human progress through effective measurement solutions. Since 1947, ETS has helped over 200 countries and regions strengthen their assessment systems by equipping them with critical data to inform policy decisions—and we are thrilled to continue this legacy by building important relationships in the Middle East. Looking forward to future collaboration in the region. Stay tuned! ترقبوا المزيد قريبًا #AssessmentInnovation #ETS #education #measurement #globalcollaboration #KSA

Do adults have the skills they need to thrive in a changing world? The 2023 PIAAC results, released today by OECD Education and Skills, reveal a profound NO💔 🔹Nearly 20% of adults lack basic skills. Across 31 countries, low proficiency in literacy, numeracy and problem-solving persists, with literacy rates dropping in 14 countries. 🔹The skills gaps are widening. The divides between rich and poor, educated and lower educated, native-born and immigrant populations are growing. Across 31 countries, foreign-born adults scored 44 points lower in literacy than their native-born peers, with the U.S. and Singapore showing the largest inequalities. Adults from families with lower education levels scored up to 50 points lower than those from highly educated families. 🔹Workers are mismatched to their jobs. About one-third of workers are overqualified or under-skilled. Additionally, 10% of workers report not having the skills required for their jobs. 💡 Why it matters: Skills fuel economic success and social well-being. Better skills mean higher wages, improved health and stronger civic engagement. #PIAAC is the only large-scale assessment of adult skills worldwide. It equips policymakers and stakeholders with unparalleled insights into what adults know and can do. The more countries participate in PIAAC, the clearer the global picture becomes. At ETS Research Institute, we are proud to partner with the OECD in designing and implementing PIAAC, leveraging cutting-edge psychometric innovations to deliver accurate and consistent results to decision-makers worldwide. 🎯 Stay tuned for more insights! Our very own Ido Roll joined the 17th annual World ORT Hatter Technology Seminar in London last week to explore how generative AI is transforming education and empowering innovation within—and beyond—existing structures. A few reflections: 🔹 AI needs humans to steer it in the right direction. It's up to us to determine where to send its immense power. 🔹AI will change everything—but within context. The schools of the future may look different from those of today—but there will still be schools, along with students and teachers. We must focus on helping them adapt and succeed in this ever-changing world. 🔹Learning how to use AI is not enough. We also need to know how it works, what mistakes it makes and why, how it treats our data—and what threats it may pose to society. That's what AI literacy is about. Our scientists are reimagining the future of education and the role of AI in it to support students and teachers in meaningful ways. 💡 One example is our proposed framework for measuring digital literacy in the age of AI: https://bit.ly/3AZ2xWN.
