About us
PURPOSE: Mastery Transcript Consortium® (MTC), an ETS company, is a national and global nonprofit membership organization that helps make mastery learning—or competency-based education—available to all learners. Because this approach does not generate traditional metrics, we co-create uniquely flexible and scalable learning records to solve the challenge of credentialing. MTC accelerates equitable access to and widespread implementation of mastery learning models, empowering students to showcase competencies and share evidence of their learning.

Through powerful stories, explore how community-engaged learning can empower educators to expand their roles and create thriving learning ecosystems where learners, educators, and communities collaborate. By connecting educators with community mentors, students gain hands-on experiences that make future career paths tangible and achievable. Parents and Caregivers are critical partners in their child’s learning, and as schools move towards more competency-based goals, they need to equip families with key information about their child’s growth in those durable skills. Check out the Progress Snapshot, part of MTC’s Progress Tracker, which enables a full view of competency growth linked to authentic classroom evidence, learner reflection and educator feedback!
As learners work towards developing competencies, the MTC Progress Tracker equips you with the capacity to share key updates with parents and caregivers. “Progress Snapshots” can be published at the cadence you determine, for the learners you identify. When caregivers access Snapshots, they will see all uploaded evidence, as well as feedback left by educators via comments. Caregivers will also see the general overview of progress in competencies via the shaded boxes. The Snapshot mimics what a learner sees so that they can lead the process of explaining their progress to their caregivers. As learners build out their Progress Tracker over time, they will become well-versed in the competencies identified as crucial to their success and develop a deep understanding of themselves as learners within those areas. #InTheNews “From day one, our big idea was simple: Metrics once created to describe school—credit hours, course titles, and GPA—had begun to define school and were now throttling innovation in the service of compliance. Our solution—the Mastery Transcript—replaces credit hours and GPA with competencies and examples of student work.” In this guest article for Getting Smart, part of the H3 series, MTC CEO Mike Flanagan highlights how the Mastery Transcript aims to make credentials accessible, reliable, and directly connected to real-world opportunities.
