Take time to Remember and Honor
Memorial Day does mark the unofficial start of summer and there will be many picnics, parades, the Indy 500 and a three day Holiday weekend to spend with family and friends.
Let's not be too busy to remember the men and women who died, for the freedom we enjoy. Fly your flag, visit the grave sites of these heroes and thank their families for the ultimate sacrifice made, by someone they loved.
My Grandmother was a Gold Star mother, which is an honor no woman wants. They honor mothers who have lost their sons and daughters in the service of our country. My Uncle Ben Grochowski was only 18 when he heroically gave his life to save others, and that incredible bravery is what makes our country great. The words of the song "Proud to be an American" represents the true meaning of Memorial Day.
Let's also thank the current men and women serving our country. I always hear people say "thank you for your service", but wouldn't it be great if everyone showed their appreciation this Holiday. It could be as simple as buying coffee, lunch or dinner or showing you care, by encouraging them to talk about their experiences.
I also want to give a special shout out to my nephew Brad Dow, who is currently serving in the Navy. Let's always keep those currently serving in our thoughts and prayers.
