As a gamer I agree with you 100% and I love the concept you are advocating for. What's missing in your tuning data are the players' motivations and emotions. Game analytics are a wonderful tool but only show one side of the coin. To really get a handle on why your players play how they play, you need the players to tell you this. Call me biased but iterative playtesting can be extremely valuable in this regard.
Excellent write-up! I do agree to this but I also have my reservation for a small subset of genres that can be deemed more niche and is mostly played by players who love involved and branching game-loops.
Good job bud, keep up the good work!

6moAgree with the message about simplification being key, but the problem with the second core loop image of "Action, Reward, Investment" is that it's too generic. It's not simple really, it's just zoomed out. I have seen this exact "core loop" on dozens of different games in dozens of different genres, which often have little to do with eachother. "Play, Reward, Upgrade" or similar. Including high complexity games. Warframe follows that loop too and it's wildly complex in its systems.l
