And, well, what a better coincidence that #worldrewildingday coexists with #internationalhappinessday. Rewilding for sure is one human activity that has a net positive impact in our wellbeing and the environment. To rewild is to cultivate happiness. Let’s work together to further increase rewilding and prioritize it where it matters most, so we can recover natural habitats and ultimately reverse biodiversity loss, if we are able as humans / societies / enterprises / governments to leave fossil fuels underground / under the seabed.

WORLD REWILDING DAY 🥳 What a great start of #WorldRewildingDay this morning. Walked up the glenn before dawn with my colleague Fabien Quétier, starting from the Dundreggan Rewilding Centre in the #AffricHighlands in Scotland🏴. We were very lucky and watched five males black grouse on a lek. It was many years ago I saw them for the last time! Today, 20 March, is World Rewilding Day, which will see rewilding initiatives and people across the globe 🌎come together again to raise awareness of rewilding and the need for nature recovery 💚💙 Informing and inspiring people is a key part of #rewilding, Rewilding Europe, the Global Rewilding Alliance and all our partners across the continent. Europe 🇪🇺 and its people face a wide range of challenges, including biodiversity decline, rising global temperatures, and declining opportunities for rural economies. Applied at scale, rewilding can help to address these challenges simultaneously. Learn about the principles of rewilding and watch the video here👇🏼https://lnkd.in/eQwGGcEm Recovering nature to full health can mitigate scale and impact of global warming 🥵, enhance biodiversity 🍀, and create new sources of income for communities 👨🏼🌾. Rewilding also helps nature to deliver a range of other benefits that are essential to our existence, such as clean air, fertile soil, good health, wellbeing and resilience to disease. The need for nature and the wide range of benefits it provides has never been greater. This year, we aim to demonstrate how the hope rewilding offers to both nature and people translates into on-the-ground actions that effect change. At Pelorus Foundation, our work is at a critical junction, grappling with the urgent challenges of climate change and biodiversity loss. Already communities worldwide feel the reverberations, amplifying political, economic, and social instability. With a narrow window of roughly a decade, as indicated by science, we must pivot our course to avert catastrophic outcomes. In Response, our Strategic Plan aims to help unite efforts to safeguard our planet’s biodiversity and ecological integrity. We strive to alter our trajectory by collaborating with local, grassroots high-impact operators, nurturing a sustainable future for wildlife and wild places. Our Strategic Plan sets out our key objectives from 2024 to 2027. It outlines the actions we will take to achieve our objectives and clarifies our priority areas of focus. To do this we rely on the support and dedication of our staff, project partners, and support from our donors. Want to learn more? Restoring nature for people and climate 🌱💧 The creation of water bunds - also known as ‘earth smiles’ - is an effective method for regreening drought-affected areas, by capturing rainwater that would otherwise run off the dry, hard ground. We’ve collaborated with Justdiggit to make footage of this restoration process available to storytellers through #OpenPlanet – as part of our growing collection of community-driven solutions for people, nature and climate. Our collection with JustDiggit showcases communities in Africa working to restore landscapes, create healthier pastures for growing crops, and build resilience to the impacts of climate change. 🌱 Discover over 240 clips of JustDiggit’s land conservation and restoration projects ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gyYpGMD6 This footage is also available for commercial licensing via our partners All3Media Archive. #NatureConservation #StoriesForChange #Restoration

A couple years ago I won a design competition with a proposal based on these #bunds. These half moon landforms capture water and slow infiltration retaining moisture so that vegetation has a chance to establish. The more moisture and roots there are in the soil, the healthier the soil is, the more things can grow. They can literally transform landscapes. This is a great example of how simple #naturebaseddesign gestures can solve global issues like #desertification and #foodinsecurity.
