👏 Today and every day, we applaud election officials and poll workers for their invaluable work supporting our democracy. Tens of thousands of election officials and volunteer poll workers across the country make safe, accessible, and accurate elections possible, and their work does not stop after election night. Following #ElectionDay, election workers continue to process provisional and absentee ballots, thoroughly "canvass," or double-check, unofficial vote totals, and make any needed corrections to ensure an accurate count. BPC is proud to work directly with current and former election administrators through our Election Workforce Advisory Council and Task Force on Elections, which inform critical research and policy efforts to build a stronger future for the election administration workforce. #PollWorkers #Election2024 #ElectionOfficials

Today, our Future of Natural Gas Initiative published a National Strategy Overview, addressing the complex role of natural gas in the energy transition. With ongoing debate about natural gas in our economy and energy system, this initiative seeks to align economic, social, and environmental priorities to shape a sustainable path forward. Developed by a diverse set of experts, our strategy centers on three key policy pillars to guide essential investments over the coming decades. 1️⃣ Implement new policies, standards, and incentives to achieve multiple objectives for the climate, energy reliability and affordability, and workforce 2️⃣ Invest in natural gas infrastructure to maintain energy accessibility, reliability, affordability, and to achieve maximal mitigation of its upstream, midstream, and downstream emissions 3️⃣ Engage in coordinated planning to ensure we’re deploying the right low-emissions energy solutions in the right situations Detailed policy recommendations aligned with these pillars will be released in 2025. https://bit.ly/4ebl5kc #Bipartisan #NaturalGas

The Rural Emergency Hospital model has transformed health access in rural communities. Since its launch, 32 hospitals have converted, helping maintain critical emergency and outpatient services. Our latest report dives into the rise of the REH model and explores key challenges preventing further adoption. Our recommendations to ensure more rural hospitals can benefit from this essential Medicare program: 1.       Improve REH Flexibility and Coordination Around Service Delivery Congress should allow REHs to provide limited acute and inpatient maternity care. 2.       Align REH Incentives with Other Rural Hospitals Congress should maintain funding for the HRSA REH technical assistance program. 3.       Clarify and Revise Rules to Provide Increased Certainty to Current and Prospective REHs Congress should allow more closed facilities to consider the REH model by extending the lookback period and enabling the establishment of REHs in areas without hospitals after conducting community needs assessments. 4.        Implement Changes to Ensure a Smooth and Timely Transition to the REH Model HHS should ensure timely payments for new REHs and consider temporary bridge payments to stabilize funding during transition to the REH model. 5.       Continue to Monitor the REH Reimbursement Structure HHS and Congress should continue to monitor the REH reimbursement structure. 6.        Ensure Access to Critical Ambulance Services Reform ambulance and emergency medical services to protect REH reimbursements. https://bit.ly/3Yjj1kk #Bipartisan #RuralHealth #REHmodel

Why is it important for the U.S. to invest in critical minerals? These resources are not only necessary for manufacturing the device you’re reading this on – we need them for national security and clean energy. U.S. investment has been low. For example, the price of lithium carbonate has fallen by 84% since 2022. The U.S. then relies heavily on China for these metals. Our energy senior policy analyst John Jacobs came up with a strategy: the creation of a new government agency that would: ✅ Serve as the federal government’s primary financial instrument for securing critical mineral supply chains. ✅️ Increase domestic processing capacity and stabilize critical mineral prices. ✅️ Employ flexible financial support to mitigate price risks in varied critical mineral markets, making domestic projects attractive to investors The U.S. Reserve of Critical-Minerals Commodities would act as a proactive and adaptable market participant, using financing tools to tackle price challenges and boost private investment. Our report covers short-term and long-term strategies: https://bit.ly/48oZN15 #Bipartisan #CriticalMinerals

The rapid development of the COVID-19 vaccine highlighted the importance of steady government funding for health research and innovation. But the rising national debt will make it harder to prepare for and address public health needs. It not only drives up health care costs but reduces both public and private investment, slowing innovation and lifesaving treatments. Reforms are crucial to ensure access to affordable, high-quality health care. Check out our new explainer on how the national debt impacts health care: https://bit.ly/3BTyEXT #Bipartisan #NationalDebt #HealthCare
