Time for another #ImpactStory: Today, we zoom in on Ecuador and how the NGO Fundación Paisajes Sostenibles championed Jaguar conservation with the Half-Earth platform. Context: The Half-Earth Project Map is a state-of-the-art tool designed for conservation decision-making. Leveraging this, the E.O. Wilson Biodiversity Foundation created “Biodiversity Snapshots” to empower local conservationists. In 2024, Fundación Paisajes Sostenibles (PASOS) used these snapshots to establish the "Path of the Jaguar," protecting 213,000 hectares of vital Chocó tropical forests! 🌳✨ Read about the story and many more here: https://lnkd.in/eEUDazam

Another day, another #ImpactStory: In 2023 in the US, 38% of food went unsold or uneaten - That's 149 billion meals wasted annually, matching the footprint of the entire U.S. aviation industry! ✈️ ReFED is on a mission to end this. As a national nonprofit dedicated to ending food waste across the U.S, they approached us to develop the ReFED Insights Engine: a tool that provides information, and solutions to anyone interested in food waste reduction. ♻️ 🥗 This collaboration enabled by AI technology has yielded remarkable results, helping businesses cut food waste by 14.8%. These efforts did not just conserve food—they also have had a huge environmental impact, saving over $2 billion and avoiding millions of tons of CO2 emissions every year. The tool created also inspired people and businesses. For example, a creative employee engagement initiative led Bob’s Red Mill to reduce waste by an astounding 70%. Way to go! These efforts showcase how data-driven solutions tackle food waste while benefiting communities and conserving our planet's resources 🌍. 🎥 Celebrating 15 years of impact: zoom in on our longest standing partnership; with the World Resources Institute! We've worked with WRI from the beginning to develop Global Forest Watch into the vital resource it is now. From informing policy to supporting Indigenous Peoples protect forests, GFW is helping to identify and halt deforestation globally 🌳 🌳 🌳 On the ground in Suriname, Indonesia, and Peru, local communities have used open data and satellite alerts to document illegal activities, deter future logging, and advocate for their access and rights to the land. Indigenous Peoples protect and manage more than 85% of the world’s biodiversity and 36% of the world’s remaining intact forests (World Bank, 2023). From uncovering illegal logging in the Aru Islands to reducing deforestation by 52% in one year in Peruvian territories, Global Forest Watch’s tools have proven transformative. We are delighted that GFW has supported local indigenous communities in safeguarding their land and our shared home. 🌎 Explore this #impactstory and many more on our website: https://lnkd.in/eS762F2v

Last week, we marked 15 years of impact. This week, we will delve into what impact means for us: impact on what and for whom? To answer this question, let's travel to Madagascar 🇲🇬 First, let's go back in time a little bit. In 2019, Conservation International partnered with Vizzuality to create the "Resilience Atlas", a data platform that would provide clear insights for governments, communities, donors, and businesses facing challenges like climate change and conflict across over 40 countries in Sahel, Horn of Africa, and South/Southeast Asia 🌍 One of these countries was Madagascar, where our first #impactstory is set. There, Conservation International and the Madagascar Government use the "Resilience Atlas" to map exposure to unpredictable rainfall and flooding in order to sustain a resilient rice production. That way, the Resilience Atlas helps maintaining the livelihoods of local farmers and the availability of a crucial staple for millions of people in the region 🌾 🍚 Learn more about the situation in Madagascar here: https://lnkd.in/eCTDtRUm And explore our website for more #impactstories: https://lnkd.in/eS762F2v
