I am thrilled to share that Beyond 12 has been selected to participate in google.org's first #GenAI Accelerator! With Google's support, we will design and develop a GenAI-powered coach that will provide college success coaching at scale to first-generation college students and students from underresourced communities, allowing us to significantly increase the number of students in the U.S. who earn postsecondary degrees and credentials, secure meaningful employment, and lead choice-filled lives.
Over the last year, Beyond 12 has been designing and developing new GenAI solutions that automate our navigational and transactional tasks to allow our team to focus on work that can only be delivered by humans. As one of 21 organizations in the Accelerator, we’re thrilled to partner with the Google team to advance one of those solutions. The funding, dedicated support from pro bono Googlers, and the network of peers from whom we are learning are propelling us forward.
I want to give a BIG shout out to Jennifer Starling Burnside and Kavi Manivarmane from Google for serving as Beyond 12’s AI Coach and Project Success Manager and Karla Palmer for leading the new Accelerator. I'm also grateful to Erin Hattersley, Nicole Brenner, Omar Medina, Justin Steele, and so many others at Google.org who have made this investment possible. Thank you for being such incredible partners on this journey!
Historically, in education and in other sectors, technological innovations have tended to benefit those with advantages first, and more — widening existing disparities. It’s easy to envision a scenario where history repeats itself, and a new technology delivers new advantages to those who already have plenty. Given the astonishing range of AI solutions, and the speed at which their capabilities are growing, households that are rich in information, elite networks, and dollars will be at the crest of the wave, understanding and using these technologies sooner and more strategically. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
The possibilities are astounding. But whether GenAI will narrow or widen gaps of advantage for a new generation is entirely up to the choices that we humans make. Join us to ensure we use this moment to increase economic and social mobility for the students we are honored to serve. #AcceleratedWithGoogle
