European Commission #EuropeanYearOfSkills It is high time to establish high quality working conditions for trainees! And create better opportunities for employers to attract, train and retain talent. We’ve just put forward proposals to ensure fairer and more inclusive traineeships for all. In particular, we are pushing for: 💶 fair remuneration; 📈 increased employability; 🔒 access to adequate social protection; 💼 equal access to traineeship opportunities; 🤝 systematic appointment of a mentor to provide specific support; 💻 provision of all necessary equipment for hybrid and remote working. We also want to ensure that internships are not used to disguise regular jobs and we call on EU countries to set up channels for trainees to report malpractice and poor working conditions. This will help to create a more inclusive and dynamic labour market for young people in our Union.

🙌 We did it! A proposal for a new framework for quality #traineeships has been delivered by the Commission, with the massive commitment of our colleagues in DG EMPL. As a former trainee here in #Brussels in CSOs ( Organising Bureau of European School Student Unions ❤️) and in a European #socialpartner ( European Trade Union Committee for Education ETUCE-CSEE ), and as a former social activist ( Arci - Associazione Ricreativa e Culturale Italiana among the others 😊 ), I feel really enthusiastic in knowing that the struggles of many youth-led NGOs have reached this important step, for which we have fought with patience, awareness, and commitment! 🇪🇺 The EU's current framework for traineeships already sets out 21 quality principles to ensure high-quality learning and working conditions. These include clear vacancy notices, written traineeship agreements, clearly defined learning objectives, and transparent information on remuneration and social protection. The new rules will reinforce this existing framework once adopted, as called for by the Conference on the Future of Europe and the European Parliament.

I'm concerned that the EU financial system is evolving into a closed ecosystem. Compelling individuals, including those from developing countries, to adhere to a Western-dominated financial structure or face exclusion. This approach starkly contrasts with the European Union's proclaimed commitment to global opportunity equality. The underlying question is where do integrity and ethics stand in all this? It appears as though there's a stark ultimatum: either you're with us, or you're labeled a terrorist, or considered in need of protection from the hazards of an unregulated market. Such strategies are not only disappointing but also raise questions about their transparency and fairness. This then leads to confusion among entities like the OECD - OCDE and United Nations regarding the slow progression of developing nations related to growth of developed countries, despite Western aid. Perhaps a reconsideration towards a truly inclusive global market is needed, one that recognizes the value of anonymous transactions and leverages the full potential of free market dynamics for global innovation and growth. It makes one ponder the true intentions behind these policies.
