🎉We won: Ulster University is the Times Higher Education University of the Year 2024! The judges said Ulster took the top prize "in recognition of its role as an anchor institution in a region that has undergone rapid change in the quarter-century since the signing of the Good Friday Agreement," and that its achievements “demonstrated the University’s growing influence and status in the island of Ireland, and as a force for good in fostering peace, prosperity and cohesion.” These awards, also known as the Oscars of Higher Education, honour outstanding performance and achievement, and this award is testament to the passion, dedication, and hard work of every single one of our students and staff. We are delighted that 2 of our Ulster University Coleraine graduates (Sarah O'Grady and Ethan Hill) who set up their own businesses during their Enterprise Placement Year programme were finalists in the Causeway Chamber of Commerce People Awards this month 🥳 AND we are super #ProudofUU to announce that Ethan Hill received the Highly Commended award for Graduate of the Year sponsored by Eakin Healthcare 🙌 Check out more details on these exceptional graduates below: Ethan Hill, graduated from Coleraine in 2023 with a 1st class honours BSc with DPP in Interactive Media and won the Smarts Communicate Digital Media Award for the highest mark in the Interactive Media Final Year Major Project. He is the co-founder of Troggs Surf School, through our Enterprise Placement Year programme. Using the learning from his Interactive Media degree at Coleraine, he produced a high-quality website and engaging social media content to attract new customers and increase bookings. He attained Trip Advisor's Traveller's Choice Award 2024, and was featured in The Guardian's 2022 article, "Surf schools: five of the best places in the UK to learn", raising awareness of the North Coast of Ireland as an experience destination. Sarah O'Grady graduated from Coleraine in 2024 with a 2:1 with DPP in Journalism with English which inspired her to start up Your Word Counts, a freelance copywriting business which offers services in website copy, blogs and press releases, established through our Enterprise Placement Year programme. Sarah uses her talents in storytelling and language with clients such as VOYPIC - Voice of Young People in Care to help raise their profiles and share key messages to their audiences. In addition, Sarah has just published her first book of poetry entitled "12:37" where she creatively expresses the challenges of living with OCD and EDS (available via Amazon!). Jackie Smyth mentored both graduates through their #EPY, so was especially proud to support and celebrate with them at the #Causewayawards.
