I can't help but read this announcement through the lens of succession and leadership transition planning. This quote from Darren Walker is key: "George Washington had it right: You should leave before it’s time to go." Too many leaders leave too late, and that can hamper the organization they were stewarding. It takes a thoughtful discernment process for folks to know when it's time to go, and all leaders should engage in regular check-ins with themselves and their "personal board of directors" about what they have to contribute, what their organizations need from them and whether the two are in alignment. https://lnkd.in/enqJx9Su

How do you support future leaders in their respective communities? This week we feature the work of the Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation https://lnkd.in/e4snzuNJ Locally they are driving the efforts toward looking deeper, beyond our superficially wealthy and stable region, to the youth who would not likely manage to achieve their potential if they did not have access to support from others. My passion for developing resilient individuals is no secret. Neither is the fact that kids are my favorite focus of that. 🌱 Supporting one young person means supporting one family. Which means supporting somebody who can show up at their work more fully and provide for productive organizations. It is the fabric of society we weave together. 🌲 It is planting a tree that will grow to support a forest in 10 years. Among their programs of food, shelter, and clothing provisions, they also lead with Scholarship and Education initiatives, as well as Mentoring and Youth Outreach. Here are ways you can help: ➡️ Join their fellowship of donors ➡️ Form strategic partnerships that serve multiple purposes ➡️ Connect them to additional resources ➡️ Model what they are doing in your own organizations in the communities where you are. Contact Taralyn Tharp Kohler for more ideas and information on what they may need to continue their #growth #communityWellness #leadership #peopleFirst #resilience

Great takeaway: That's a valuable lesson for every leader, even if you aren't trying to figure out how to give away one of the most iconic fortunes in the history of humanity. Your job should be to build up leaders who can succeed you, and then trust them to make the right decisions without burdening them with restrictions. #leadership

𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘢𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦? Have you considered what you want your business or team to evolve into? Many leaders prioritize what they want to achieve in the short term, but neglect the importance of envisioning what they want to become in the long run. This is where the EOS Vision/Traction Organizer comes into play. It doesn't confine your leadership team to immediate goals; it also focuses on the future trajectory of your business. By clarifying long-term growth and revenue objectives, your leadership team can then strategize actions for the upcoming year and the next 90 days. While original 5-year goals may undergo revisions, the process of reevaluating long-term objectives annually ensures adaptability and progress. It's not a one-time activity but an ongoing exercise. Emphasizing what you want to become fosters innovation and encourages bold ideas, motivating both you and your team to pursue significant initiatives. Interested in guidance with this process? Feel free to send me a DM, and let's explore how I can assist you. https://lnkd.in/gd4PyMqa #EOS #Leadership

🌟 Shining a Light on the American South’s Untapped Change-Makers 🌟 Marc Carr MBA reflects on a recent tour of the American South, it’s clear that we’re only scratching the surface of the immense change-making talent that exists within these communities. From Clarksdale, Mississippi—known as the home of the blues but rich with community redevelopment efforts—to bustling Charlotte, I witnessed powerful initiatives led by local leaders deeply rooted in the challenges their communities face. These “proximate leaders” are the very people driving innovative solutions, reclaiming their communities, and demonstrating a unique, authentic approach to impact that only those close to the issues can bring. This journey reinforced the importance of being on the ground, not just looking at data from afar. Foundations have a crucial role in supporting these local changemakers by truly understanding community needs, which often means taking the time to tour, listen, and learn firsthand. Supporting these leaders—who are overlooked far too often—can help catalyze sustainable, locally driven change. If foundations, investors, and advocates continue to focus on proximate leadership, we can uplift these communities and the often-overlooked positive stories that exist alongside the challenges. Let’s recognize and champion the impactful work happening in the South and beyond. #CommunityCapital #ProximateLeadership #SouthernChangeMakers #ImpactInvestment #CommunityDevelopment #UntappedTalent #FoundationsForChange #InvestInTheSouth #ClarksdaleMississippi #Charlotte

Check out this great article in the Boston Globe featuring our Executive Director, Natanja!
So grateful to be a part of this story among these incredible leaders. Thank you to The Castle Group and especially Sandy Lish for including me as part of it. Pitching stories like this matter. The road to leadership is filled with setbacks, jump forwards and lots of turns but when we are sharing that journey with others it makes each step easier.
These local leaders struggled in school. It hasn’t held them back. - The Boston Globe
