We’ve announced the cohort and are now delighted to reveal our host council for Challenge 1 in January - Buckinghamshire Council Cllr Martin Tett, Leader of Buckinghamshire Council said: “We’re thrilled to be hosting the LG Challenge 2025. Buckinghamshire Council is a young and forward-thinking organisation and we are really proud to be supporting innovation and best practice in our sector in this way. “The challenge is a fantastic chance for participants to stretch themselves and provides an opportunity for us all to look at new ways to face challenge and find solutions. I am a firm believer that councils should take every opportunity to learn from each other as part of how we continue to develop as organisations and as a sector as a whole; Buckinghamshire Council is proud to be playing such a key role in supporting this event in the coming year.” We can’t wait to be on site to reveal the topic and see what ideas the cohort generate. #LGChallenge #LocalGov #Leadership Local Government Association

How can senior managers in non-technical roles develop a 'digital mindset'? We are working with Apolitical on the ‘Unlocking Digital Excellence Programme’, a first-of-its-kind free learning opportunity for 30 Local Authority senior managers in non-technical roles across England. The pilot programme will run from December 2024 to March 2025. This programme is an opportunity for your organisation to: ◾ increase its digital readiness ◾ develop a digital mindset that could open the door to new opportunities We’re asking you to share this opportunity with your colleagues and encourage them to express their interest by 20 November. https://lnkd.in/eSANiSZW

🌟 Thrilled to announce that I've successfully applied to participate in the Local Government Challenge #LGChallenge2025! 🚀 This incredible opportunity wouldn't have been possible without the life-changing journey I've experienced through Solace #Amplify. The program has been instrumental in helping me sharpen my #leadershipskills, deepen my #insights, and prepare for this next challenge. I’m excited to join an inspiring line-up of dedicated professionals from across the country, all committed to driving #innovationandimpact in #localgovernment. Huge vote of thanks to @Sarah Bogunovic, Liz Mills and our very own Surrey County Council #ChiefExec Terence Herbert for supporting my application. Spent a great couple of days in Harrogate at #lgconf24 for the conclusion of the Local Government challenge. I have had the opportunity to attend lots of discussions at about important issues affecting the local government sector, a sector I am super proud to work in. I enjoyed the discussions on planning given how high we are on the political agenda at the moment, and A.I, inclusivity, commercialism and governance talks were also interesting. The local government recruitment campaign featuring me 🫣 was also rolled out. Good to hear the #deputyprimeminister confirm she believes in the power of local govt, and resetting relationships with local councils is a key priority. Also, sounds like our Committees (planning committee 🤩) could be going hybrid/ virtual to ensure there are no barriers to the right people taking part. Lastly it was fabulous to catch up with my amazing #lgchallenge cohort and the LGA superstars including Michael Barrett (we missed you Virginia!) we have been on the best journey this year and I have learned so much from each and everyone of you. Big thanks again to the LGA for this amazing opportunity and my bosses at #lichfielddc for supporting me.

A lot of learning & great chance to catch up at this year’s #LGAConf24 🎉 Particular highlights included talks on the future of local government finance - more critical than ever in light of the Local Government Association’s recent survey, showing 1/4 Councils saying they are likely to apply for emergency financial support in the next two years 💰 Conference was an opportunity to hear from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government with the Deputy PM announcing a consultation on remote / hybrid meetings & a new standards regime for members. MCAs the direction of travel - all eyes peeled for the English Devolution Bill 👀 Also an opportunity to learn more about place-making best practise & strategy. Especially impressed by work being done by Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council. 🛶 Most importantly, chance to see friends from LG Challenge 2024! Big ideas & lots of fun!

It’s been a privilege to attend the LGA conference in Harrogate this week, something I’ve been fortunate to do as a result of taking part in the Local Government Challenge this year. Some fascinating talks on topics as diverse as Corporate Peer Challenge, Innovation During a Financial Crisis, Local Government Recruitment, Community Engagement, and Devolution. There really is such a wide range of innovative work going on across the sector, despite the challenging financial climate we find ourselves in. The highlight for me was catching up with my colleagues from this year’s LG Challenge cohort, who I’ve learned so much from, and visiting Harrogate for the first time!
