Great takeaway: That's a valuable lesson for every leader, even if you aren't trying to figure out how to give away one of the most iconic fortunes in the history of humanity. Your job should be to build up leaders who can succeed you, and then trust them to make the right decisions without burdening them with restrictions. #leadership

Leadership quote by Warren Buffet Your job should be to build good leaders who can succeed you and then trust them to make the right decisions without burdening them with restrictions. Ultimately, your most important job is to give your successor the best opportunity for, well success. This is a great perspective of a man's view on succession planning and leadership.

Though HBR published this piece 10 years ago, this philosophy still holds up as a fresh and genuine perspective for leaders to follow. The idea of "leading from the heart" aligns perfectly with my own leadership style. At my core, I want every person I lead to grow and realize the best version of themselves. That sort of direct mentorship was essential to getting to where I am today, and I hope to leave the same impression on my team members. No leader is perfect. No person is. But we can still put our best foot forward to lead our employees. Our greatest asset lies in our ability to connect with our teams on a deeper level, to understand their needs, aspirations, and challenges. #Leadership #HeartCenteredLeadership #Authenticity

Strategy is ongoing. This means that even if we have created a plan, or have a sense of the direction our organization needs to go, we need to continually review, evaluate, and rethink our plan. Any strategy can run into road blocks along the way. My DBD Group colleague Richard Clegg has some thoughts about how to manage these challenges in this thoughtful blog. "Knowing when to adjust the strategies in your strategic plan and when to give your strategy time to play out can be a critical turning point for the leadership of your organization. How can you tell if something is amiss?" 📖 I #love #learning! 🤔 So much, in fact, that one of our core values is #curiosity. 💺 One of my FAVORITE things about the work we do with clients is that we get a front row seat to different approaches to #problemsolving. ❓ Who/what encourages you to keep an open/growth mindset? ❔ What are some great examples in your experience? ⁉ How do your #values inform your #leadership? #mondaymotivation #valuesbasedleadership #lifelonglearner https://lnkd.in/e6DRhZnj

A prominent man in our community passed away at the age of 86. He made a tremendous impact on our community from starting a small business to founding a food pantry for the poor, just to name a few. Reading his obituary I learned of the challenges he had as a youth. Raised by a single father with 6 siblings, shined shoes for work, was in the Korean War. Incredibly accomplished life who left an indelible imprint on our city. Trauma and struggle are the themes you often hear about when learning about the lives of great men and women. They fought to overcome something and that made them stronger and shaped their character. Leaders become leaders through the struggles. As a #leader, working through the struggles can change not only your organization but it can change you. Challenges should be something that are embraced and not avoided. I’m not saying it’s fun or easy, but taking on the challenges can have its rewards. I learned a valuable lesson a few weeks back when I attended #LEAD2024 from one of the #FIS leaders: “when the whole organization says NO, your job is to look for the YES.” My advice: Challenge the NO’s, don’t be afraid of the struggle and at the end, reflect on how what you went through made you a changed person. And if interested, read about Frank’s life and ask yourself, “how do I want to be remebered?” https://lnkd.in/ewUPJAAY

"After careful thought and reflection..." It's important for leaders to know the difference between decisions that require quick action and those that require careful thought. Confusing the two is one of the worst mistakes a leader can make, and the consequences to your team and your goals can be devastating. #firstpro #emotionalintelligence #smartleadership

Pro Tip! Living Your Mission: The Key to Unstoppable Progress Living in alignment with your mission—whether personal or nonprofit—is essential. Every choice, every action should move you toward your mission’s purpose. That’s the ultimate test for deciding what to do or say: “Does this step help me move in the right direction?” When your personal mission aligns with your organization’s mission, you become unstoppable! You’re in motion, driving success. But as you move forward, know that success often brings critics. Don’t make yourself small to appease others. Remember, “What others think of you is none of your business!” — a quote from this week’s speaker at my Rotary Club. (She made me laugh.) God has given you gifts and placed you in a position to make an impact. Use those gifts with zeal, and don’t let the opinions of others derail you. Stay energized, embrace the criticism, and you’ll eventually be surrounded by the people who matter. If you ever need encouragement along the way, message me. Until then, live your mission fearlessly and feel the energy that it creates inside you and all around you! #MissionDriven #Leadership
