#TRB AMR10 Quarterly Meeting (Monday, 11/4 at 2 PM easter): #USDOT #Resilience Coalition – Implementation Needs of the Transportation Practitioner Abstract: In an effort to gain an understanding of the current state of capabilities and capacities of surface transportation agencies in resilience planning and implementation, the United States Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT) partnered with the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (#AASHTO) to assemble a coalition of surface transportation professionals focused on the growing issue of climate resilience in transportation. The Coalition effort focused on a bottom-up approach to identify challenges with the implementation of resilience at a range of agency types. The purpose of the Resilience Coalition was to gather implementation-level input from stakeholders across the surface transportation industry, including highways, transit, rail, and ports to: • Document gaps in knowledge, data, capacity, and tools. • Identify barriers to implementing climate resilience. • Develop recommendations for next steps. The opportunities to improve resilience implementation were grouped into five categories: Capacity and Understanding, Policies and Funding, Data and Information, Metrics and Methods, and Tools and Approaches. This presentation will highlight the findings of the Resilience Coalition and will include four panelists. #Connection details: you must be a friend of the AMR10 committee of the Transportation Research Board (#TRB). It's free. Sign up at https://www.mytrb.org/ and message me.

Three days to go! Around 200 people are booked up to join us for the 18th PTRC Fireside Chat this Thursday to discuss Triple Access Planning. Later this month we will be releasing the 'Triple Access Planning for Uncertain Futures - Handbook for Practitioners'. Instead of transport planning in the paradigm of predict and provide, we bring you Triple Access Planning in the paradigm of decide and provide. After nearly three years of a pan-European project looking into this, our work is nearly done. There are already innovators out there pioneering TAP in their transport plans and and strategies. It feels like a diffusion of innovation is underway. TAP doesn't promise to make the planner's job easier necessarily but it does offer an approach that is more fit for purpose for the times we are now in. It resonates strongly with a world that needs to decarbonise, which is going deeper into the digital age, and which feels decidedly uncertain. With the Chairman of the Transport Planning Society Ben Plowden in the chair, the Panel for this Fireside Chat is made up of Rose McArthur, Annette Smith, Stephen Cragg, Deborah Paton and myself. It promises to be a fascinating and timely conversation - I do hope you will consider joining us. It takes place from 12.30pm to 2.00pm (GMT) on 7 March and you can book your free place to attend here: https://lnkd.in/enuQacrw #tripleaccessplanning #transportplanning

United by a shared mission: to exchange experiences, learn from each other, and honor the progress made in safeguarding our #oceans. For many, the ocean is more than just a vast expanse of water. It is home to a variety of species. It provides food in form of fisheries, serves as a vital channel for transport and communication, support renewable energy production, and even plays a role in defense among other uses. Yet today, our oceans are facing challenges like never before—impacted by human activities and the undeniable force of climate change. Marine Spatial Planning #MSP offers us a path forward—a governance tool designed to manage human use of marine spaces while supporting the sustainable development of our marine environment. But for #MSP to succeed, it demands the full participation of all stakeholders, the alignment of diverse interests, and the integration of cross-sector policies. At the heart of it all, we rely on the power of shared scientific evidence to guide us. Together, we can ensure that the ocean remains a thriving resource for generations to come. #marineplan #MSPgreen #REGINA-MSP
The Marine Institute were well represented within the Irish delegation at today's European Commission / EU Marine Spatial Planning Platform Stakeholder Conference. The Conference celebrates a decade since implementation of the EU MSP Directive. Today's agenda considered: • Opportunities to enhance cooperative approaches to MSP; • Data, Innovation, and Harmonisation within MSP; and, • The future of MSP in the context of the European Green Deal and the imminent European Ocean Pact. These are crucial considerations to better safeguard precious marine environments whilst enabling their sustainable and harmonious use by maritime industries and society. Congratulations to colleagues in the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications on their contributions, and to the Marine Institute's Robert Runya, Ph.D and Michael Arrigan on their excellent presentations. #DecadeMSP
